And you deserved a more polite answer IMO.

It's a shame when the CM are flippant and dismissive to concerns that customers raise regarding BMW's path forward. "Stop whining, go somewhere else, your just one out of many" certainly seems like the more childish part of this dialogue.:eusa_thin

This took a whole different direction than I thought.

I like what I am seeing so far, finally something of the last generaation of "BOLDNESS" ... a daring design.

Ground clearence screams X4, while shape as Eni and Scott mentioned is 6GT ...

Front is worrying but no matter what it is still than those conservative 5 & 7 series ...

All in All, I am happy with what I am seeing and I hope to see the final product soon.

Scott and Eni: Thanks for your efforts expalining all this. Appreciated.

Sorry, but I got an impression that was the issue - since you have constantly bitched about BMW not offering true sports cars anymore - too much SAVs, too much heavy cars, too much big cars etc. And comparing BMW to Audi - praising Audi since they do or intend to offer cars BMW don't offer.

    :t-hands:

    How does X5 M affect M3 image & performance? :t-hands:

Or how does 5er GT affect M5 image?

    Etc.

Regarding X6 ... it's a very successful model: almost 20k units sold in the 1st half of the year worldwide (~45k of X5 in the same time). People like it - it oozes performance & power - a typical BMW. And it's very agile for a car of such size. Agian: very BMWish.

Same case with X3 - still praised for its agility. Also the first X1 impressions were indeed very positive - regarding the drive dynamism.

Not to mention X5 is still one of the most sporty SUVs in the market (beside Cayenne, FX & RR Sport).

So, SUVs do not have negative effect on BMW image - in contrary: all X cars are enhancing the BMW sporty image. Since cars are compared in within same segment.

Only media are so stupid to compare X6M with M3, or Cayenne with 911. :t-crazy2:

This thread has gone slighty off-topic, sorry about that. Im just disappointed to see another large vechicle from BMW.
Your impression is wrong. I've explained several times what I want from BMW and I dont feel like telling you about it again.
I didnt mean to push any sensitive buttons so lets go back to BMW secret car again, meaning ontopic..

Apologies EnI, confusion on my part.

Andreas: I feel your disappointment friend but I guess BMW is promising some nice small sporty cars in future, 1er, Z2 , iSetta ... I think its wise to wait and see. I think it is important to remember that although Eni might be part of CM but he is not a BMW employee like Scott. Currently I have the same exact problem with BMW, some rivals have surpassed them in sportiness but let it me put it this way, rivals are almost there in terms of numbers maybe, but still lacking the BMW feel and BMWs were always not only great handling cars but also fun to drive.

BMW can not offer all cars at once.

Perhaps right now it seems only SAVs, corssovers & large cars are offered - more to do with comfort & utility than pure sportiness. But that's just an illusion. And also smaller & sportier cars are coming.

Some here are demanding daily hot news on new BMW models - while on the other hand many of you are complaining about to many model in portfolio (to big model expansion).

Still ... all the new cars are mainly the niche models: meaning their sales numbers are not high-volume ones.

Also mind the BMW clientèle has different needs & preferences today - than in eg. in 80s & 90s. So don't expect same kind of cars today as they were offered in those years.

Mind MANY BMW customers are still complaining BMW cars are still too sporty - to stiff, too jerky, too hard. Demanding more comfort & convenience.

Of course in the case of MB the picture is different: there people are demanding a bit more sportiness in core models as well.

Btw, with many other carmakers now offering extremely sporty compact cars (eg. Evo, Impreza etc) for quite less buck - for people who want performance, and are not willing to pay for brand per se. These segments are not promising for BMW anymore - since many other people (in other segments) are ready to pay more for the brand name. And BMW is entering those segments: where profit is better.

Yes, there will be small sporty cars - on 1er platform. But they won't be cheap. Nor will be hardcore.

Also: we are in the delicate times now. Priorities are changing. And BMW are in the middle of this process. They are independent, and neither small enough nor big enough to do some vanity or specific projects. Therefore brands like Jaguar, AM, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Alfa Romeo etc have an advantage. Business models are completely different.

Nothing from BMW is cheap, unless you live in the US.

I think it is strange to even consider a special model that will meet neither customer segments demands... or what do you mean by "not hardcore"?

You would actually be surprised on how much orders are coming in for the X M models not only in Russia and the USA but even in continental Europe and the UK are posting significant orders.

The X1 is still skyrocketing Orders in europe and the UK are very high for the new compact SAV , and that is before the car goes on sale in the US in 2011.

The 5er GT is surprising us more because there are a lot more people registering their interest and there is substantial pre-orders already in the system for Germany and other European markets such as the UK.

The X1 is the first stage of our offensive on the compact segment. And will lay the grounds for exciting small compact cars that will be offered in a range of body styles and all tastes.

The Modular platform for the new 1er was originally offered to Daimler until they seen the brief for BMW's product offensive which paled in signifigance to the strategy for Mercedes-Benz's model plan , to which they decided to go alone and expand their models because BMW were serious about their expansion in the compact segment.
The area where there will be higher levels of growth in the next few years.

Good to hear that BMW gets good sales figures, I'm only a bit sad that this will probably be taken as proof that the current offerings is what every BMW customer wants.

All cars tend to do well in the beginning but can the sales continue being a success?
  12. Deutsch Well-Known Member

Sucks to be MB these days I guess, as far as the compact segment goes. Kudos to BMW expanding into new markets with innovative ideas and approaches all the while still maintaining their unique brand DNA that's allowed them to enjoy such legendary status as an icon in the first place.
  13. JadeVetti Well-Known Member

Concept or no concept, BMW better not even think about putting out a new model until they've put the CS into production.

This is just some dismissed design proposal nobody will ever see, just watch how all this 'hype' is based on nothing.

Don't expect a polite answer. Frankly, from somebody who in my eyes, and many others, is representing BMW on here (despite what ENI may say, he certainly posts as if he represents BMW) his attitude to existing and potential customers is disgusting. It's arrogant responses like that which just serve to push me away from the brand which I have loved since I was 12.
  16. RikfromBelgium New Member

to be honest, with the type of BS replies I've been reading here they're entitled to give you little whining bitches a beating.

Come ooooon guys, move on. It's not because BMW is expanding into newer markets that they're forgetting what BMW or M is all about. Isn't the M5 still considered the best sportssedan by many? Isn't the M3 still the king in its class?
Isn't this 7 series probably the best 7 series ever built?
Yes the 3 series is selling less than the A4. But isn't it still the best car to drive? Is it selling badly because of the A4? No. Ever thought about the fact that that segement runs hugely on company leases and that the boring sausage that is the A4 suits that market better than a modern designstatement like the 3 series?

The X5 was a new segment not so lang ago, now it's considered the one to beat. The 1 series succesfully brought premium and sportiness to a market launching a whole new segment. Or haven't you noticed how more and more brands are appealing customers with their sporty little hatchbacks.

Porsche made the Cayenne and the panamera, totally different from the 911, where's the moaning there?? Is the 911 suddenly a bad car?

Be happy BMW is healthy and has room for steady expansion in stead of going bust like chrysler, Ford, GM, or selling brands like Opel, Saab, ...
Or losing money on "mergers" like Daimler ... Or in a fight with each other like VW and Porsche.

Now stop complaining and let's see what this brings.

    Great post for perspectives, thanks.

Only one thing, Porsche may be building those things that are very far from a true Porsche, but they still make the GT3 (RS) and the GT2, right?
  18. Sunny Well-Known Member

And BMW still makes M3 and M5, right? :D
  19. Just_me Well-Known Member

Dont involve Porsche in this thread, they are several levels above BMW. Cayman, Carrera GT, GT2, GT3, GT3 RS , do I need to say more.

Just like Porsche still builds the Turbo and the Carrera S. Oh, I should just quit... but the CSL would be the GT3 of BMW.

I guess it will never happen again and that we should just be very happy if BMW does not screw up the next M3. The current one is, after all, an about as good a car as we can expect from BMW.
