Vs Porsche Macan vs Range Rover Evoque

At 0.39s Sutcliffe says "I'm going to give it absolutely everything in second gear ". Maybe I haven't had my carrots this morning, but the readout on the instrument cluster seems to be showing 3rd gear. No?

It's not really fair comparing a 3.0 twin turbo V6 with 255hp to a 2.2 4 cylinder turbo with 188hp, nor are they in the same market segment, the Evoque plays with the X1 and Q3, not the X3 and Q5. The Porsche is also downright boring to look at the Evoque has far more on the road presence than the Maccan which is about as attractive as the Austin Allegro whose styling the Maccan apes quite nicely.

No doubt had the Evoque won people would have been screaming "bias". So it's only fair that after this result I get to scream "see, not biased at all".

And it's not just the fact the Porsche won, as expected. But Sutters says it wasn't even close.

Doesn't sound like a paid JLR shill to me.

^^I thought the VAG 3.0TDi engine under the hood of the Macan was single turboed, the twin-turbo unit kicks out 313hp not 258hp.

I doubt it will be the ballpark either.

Don't be so sure.

X4's technical specs & performance specs are very much on par with Macan. Both cars feature almost identical dimensions, very similar engine outputs etc.

Sure Porsche's chassis, engine, steering & gearbox will be set more aggressively (Porsche style) but X4 definitely isn't that much behind (especially in M Sport guise) - being quite sportier in character than its X3 brother.

Yet it still won't touch the Porsche. No need for the excuses or reaching. This whole class has been put flat on its back with this new Porsche.

Dude, they just called the Evoque the second best compact SUV in the world. LMFAO!

British bias. Can't get any worse. Crazy.

Quite. Let's hope no one who's just forked out up to £50k or $57,600(excl. delivery) on their $30k Ford Escape, sorry, 'improved for 2014 MY' Evoque, sees this, or they might start to think A/Car are indeed completely full of it:

$57,600 for a small (inferior to the)Ford SUV in drag, that can barely wheeze to 60 mph in 8 secs, and even with ZF's 9-speed marvel only manages 21.9 mpg US, thanks to a 4,000 lb plus kerbweight, terrible aerodynamics and basically poor engine/gearbox tuning.

Never mind a Porsche Macan($49k for the 'S'), you could have a decently-optioned Cayenne for $57k, or a Euro-delivery new BMW M3 for the same money.

British bias. Can't get any worse. Crazy.

- it's not just bias, it's full-on chutzpah, and believing your own propaganda, which is always fatal.

As Merc1 said the Macan has turned this segment upside down. There are reports already of a five-month waiting time for the Merc GLA, although it's barely on official sale yet. The at the NYC motor show launching BMW X4 will again wipe the floor with the $57k slow-poke Ford Escape in drag.

A/Car, JLR and the Brits are telling themselves their joque Evoque is impregnable to market forces, hence the joke pricing. Their hubris, greed and arrogance, not for the first time, will be their downfall.

ps just noticed the above Evoque in the TFLCar review doesn't even have its passenger side windshield wiper parked properly. Is it too much to ask a 'premium' maker - 3rd from bottom in JD Power Dependability - to set a wiper blade on a near $60k car?

Q3, Q5, X1, X3, X4, Macan, GLA and GLK.... That's already 8 compact SUV cars that are superior. Volvo and VW not to mention.
