Paris Preview: Toyota unveils new Avensis
autoblog

The first official picture of the new Toyota Avensis. Looks much better than the current model. I heard there will be a AWD model and hybrid diesel.

I'm not sure what I want to say here. It does look better than the previous car, but....

M

Yeah, it looks alot better than the old one. Its a nice looking car, but again nothing special here. Haven't seen any pictures of the front end yet though.

Indeed, i want to see the front end, but looks quite nice i have to admit. It would make a great taxi over here :D

My immediate impression was "cab-forward; Ford Mondeo"! Any more pics?

[PS. Could a mod please edit Julius' revolting post? :)]

Don't know what to think, it has at the same time the "they made a huge leap in making their car look nicer" effect and the (thanks julius :D ) due to the boxy basic and uninspiring rear.

For the first time I saw an image of the front end. What the hell is that thing!!! The front head lights almost extends to the A-pillars. The Japanese manufacturers are taking it too far with their overdesigned cars.

i posted this a while ago in the japanese car zone
Toyota Paris motorshow preview (Avensis, iQ, Urban Cruiser) - Japanese Car Zone

It's supposed to be a concervative looking sedan, not an oversized one! Tone down Toyota, for Christ's sake!

:t-cheers:

Oh man! The rear end wasn't all that bad..and the overall stance and lines were looking fairly promising for the front of the car... but Toyota's completely botched the front end!!
The oversized lights and how they're suck-in too much just ruin it. If they could have just kept the light shape and placement nice and simple, they could have had a nice looking car.

Looking past the dreaded Looney Tunes front lights, the rest of the car is very pleasing on the eyes. :)

So is the Avensis sized between a Corolla and a Camry? (The 'Avensis' in Australia is a people mover, not a 4dr sedan)

Now that I saw the front, I don't think Toyota could put a Lexus badge on it. :D

Basically yes, but they've discontinued the Camry in Europe. I suppose this new one will be the size of a Camry anyway.

As for the car itself... that's not pretty. Unfortunately I don't think that's enough to discourage the people who made the old one extremely popular in this country to buy the new one in droves. :eusa_doh:
