I thought I would share a passion of mine with you. Here are some recent objects by a few of the world's most influential designers and manufacturers.

Firstly, some furniture by the very conceptual and interesting Dutch designer, Marcel Wanders. These are his "New Antiques", they are made by the famous Italian furniture manufacturer Cappellini.

I like this very much, stemless wineglasses and a decanter by Riedel.

These new sofas are designed by one of THE designers of the moment, Spanish born, Patricia Urquiola - "Tuffy Time" soft furniture collection made by the major Italian firm B&B Italia

Very unique and cool furniture items. Are you somewhat related to furniture in your career? How do you come upon discovering these objects?

cool. a thread dedicated towards design. here are some of my favourites:

speaking of hadid, here's a bridge she's doing in uae.

and finally a classic from herman miller. the noguchi table.

Great stuff notic - the Noguchi table is an extraoridinary piece of design - no matter how many times you see it, even in very mediocre surroundings, it has remained fascinating :usa7uh:

Alex: It's just a passion of mine, I have no personal association with any of those designers or brands - I really think every object in your life should be exquisite and aesthetically powerfull IMO - I believe in having an emotional relationship with your chair, teapot, or car - lol.

The designer of that little table is Makoto Yamaguchi - he is an architect. Here is a house he designed in Yokohama, Japan, 2000 - I think it is very beautiful.

This is a villa/gallery he designed in Karuizawa, Japan, 2003.

These objects are frought with contemporary elegance....ahhh. :D Lovely indubitably, unconsequently aesthetic......

That is some very nice pieces of furniture Roberto to bad such beautiful, to bad the price for such products is inhuman. :eek2:

Ah, you people have good taste! Here are a couple of interesting designs I like.

The Arne Jacobsen/Fritz Hansen egg chair - exceptionally stylish, and VERY comfortable!

Poliform furniture and storage systems are simple and elegant

The Agamemnon light by architect Emilio Ambasz

The Lucille Halsell Conservatory, also by Ambasz

The Marcel Breuer Cesca armchair (of which I have 8). Unfortunately this has been copied countless times by cheap furniture companies, diminishing the original's impact.

Jono171, I really like the work of Emilio Ambasz too - there is a beautiful office chair he designed for Poltrona Frau - which is the company that makes the upholstery for Ferrari, Bugatti, and the VW Phaeton.

The Cesca chair was originally made by Gebrüder Thonet in Germany, but after WW2 the Italian manufacturer Gavina got the rights to produce it and named it Cesca and also named his famous Wassily chair - Gavina was later bought-out by Knoll International. It is made by many cheaper manufacturers but Breuer intended it to be a cheap chair in the first place - a piece of furniture that everyone could afford - it's kind of ironic that after WW2, Bauhaus furniture became a kind of intellectual status symbol.

I'm a big fan of the work of Ettore Sottsass who turned 88 in September.

OK, while we are also posting design classics, I'll post a few pieces by my favourite Modern designers.

I am a huge fan of the work of Jean Michel Frank - a French designer working in the 1930's and 40's - today his furniture can command extraordinary prices at auction.

This is a table lamp by J.M. Frank from around 1930 - the shade is alabaster.

A table by Frank covered in parchment - I think Frank understood elegance so well - he never over-designed anything.

Another incredible French designer of the twentieth century was Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann - The quality of Ruhlmann's furniture is comparable with the finest French cabinetry of the 18th century. I remember when this desk came up for auction at Christies in 2000, I dreamed of owning it - the final sale price was US$1,876,000 - a little out of my league unfortunately -lol

Jean Dunand is another French designer from the 1930's that I think is exceptional - his work is so beautiful.

This vase by Dunand is incredibly stylish.

And lastly, a Viktor Schreckengost ceramic bowl from the 1920's - the value of these has gone berzerk - this one sold at Christies in 2004 for US$250,000 - it's a pity really, I've always loved his work but they are just too expensive now.

That is one amazing painting though, it's truely beautiful. I makes me feel so small when I know that a person used brushes to make something so incredibly artistic.

I will always be surprised at people's potential.

P.S. A million bucks for furniture... it better be comfortable as hell

Wow notic, that is expensive - I guess it is a one-off.... is it?

That would justify it's price to some degree because it could be seen as a piece of sculpture by one of the most significant architects of our time.
