MINI VISION Concept.

This is what the pictures shot from a high rise building on a zoom lense do not show you.
But if we remove the detailing this is the new MINI. Overhangs and all , but there is more detail to balance the new front end, sunken headlights and bonnet lines are more visible giving the MINI a better presence than the scoop photographs show.

Sorry but the concept (espectacular) is what I expected from the production model and for more than the photos have been taken from above with zoom, it is clear that the important details of the concept are not present in reality.

For example, in the concept those side skirts extended until windows in the "rocket man" way, are spectacular, but in the reality photos doesn't exists, perhaps be an option "sport package"??

The detail present on the Vision MINI's bonnet is on the production car which helps give the front of the car a better pronounced facia , the blurred scoop photos do not show this. But in reality it helps define the front of the car along with the melted into the wings headlights which incorporate Porsche like raked ness allowing an outline along the headlights.

Looks spectacular inside out.

So good, that any production car that will come out after this will be boring.

Nah, 4er coupe changed nothing. BMW has been doing these fancy 'close to production' concepts for a loooong time already.

How could this spectacular design lead to the yellow crap leaked a few weeks ago?

4er Coupe Concept ruined it all for the consumer expectations - forever
The 4er Concept was the exact same car as the production model, minus the flashy details. As a matter of fact, the 4er Concept is one of the lesser modified production cars to be previewed in a show car form.
Other Companies do it differently. The latest example that comes to mind is MB:

The 4er minus the concept jewellery is the same as the production car , Recent BMW concepts such as X4 , Active Tourer , 4er , i3 Coupe and i8 Spyder conform to 90% of the actual production models that we will see on the road , very , very soon.

If you look closer around the headlights you can see the outline of the headlight shape in the metal where the headlight is placed further back on the front wing/bonnet. This area aligns with the grille to bring a better balance to the front as shown on the Vision MINI. Also the black bonnet stripes hide the lines on the bonnet that give the hood its more raised look which is also helped with a slight bonnet bulge which again raises the bonnet giving it a less flat look which you will see in reality.

Also the Vision MINIs surface sculpture is identical to the production car including the wheel arches which broaden the car slightly and the lower flank "scoop" across the lower section of the door is carried over to production.

I would say this color , although ideally MINI. Is not the best to see the overall detail of the new car.

Only one to convince is yourself, I am not regarding the 4er Concept vs production version. I am however still going to be the owner of a 4er coupe soon, so not put off by the issue, also not taking BMW jewelry - leading to expectations that does all but realise in production form seriously.

Speaking of which, when I get my 4er and go show off to the guys at work the first reply will, most definitely and surely be: "But it does not look like the car on the table in the TV ad" Yes, not every guy/girl is a car-nut like myself, knowing about concepts and stuff. ;)

Thus I stand firmly by my point, BMW creates utterly stupid illusions Scott, thats poor marketing mate.
IMO Realistic concept ever? Apart from the yellow gold color was the Concept X1, no funny stuff, just a preview of the actual production car.

These ^ are Showcars, spearheading a design direction, not a actuality of a production version with mere 'jewelry'

In a word yes I would say that they are illusions.
But a concept is to not only show a vision of an upcoming vehicle , it also allows designers to interpret iconic design elements but present them to an audience to gather feedback . Progression in design is constant and for BMW and its successful merits with design you do get other car manufacturers interpret BMW design cues to suit their own brand , but they are related to BMW in some way.

If we look at the 2010 BMW Gran Coupe concept we saw the three dimension headlights and tail lights if we look at the new BMW X5 we see that this element in the taillights has now made production. Illustrating this on a concept and even a production concept showcases the idea for the future , the same goes for the headlights of the 4er Coupe it retains the iconic element but features progress on how to interpret for the future, but retaining the core design element which has or could be manipulated from another competitor.

For the 4er yes it has surprised many on the favourable feedback of the interpretation of the headlight icon ( you already know how talented and knowledgable the designer is anyway), they do acknowledge these things and you will see something similar in the not so distant future.

Yes, you've said this before. And we've all said that it's that last 10% that makes all the difference. The overwhelming response when the 4 Series came out was that "meh, it looks a bit boring now after the concept".

The problem is that it IS 90% of the production models. It leads people to think that the real car is going to look like that. The MB concepts are clearly concepts so people's expectations are not as high when the production versions are released.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
