Freelander [Spy Shots] Land Rover FREELANDER 3 - Latest Spy Pics

The Land Rover Freelander is a series of four-wheel-drive vehicles that was manufactured and marketed by Land Rover from 1997 to 2015. The second generation was sold from 2007 to 2015 in North America and the Middle East as the LR2 and in Europe as the Freelander 2. After a five-year hiatus, the two-door Freelanders were succeeded by the three-door versions of the Range Rover Evoque in 2011, and the five-door generation 2 was replaced by the Discovery Sport in 2015.

These are the latest images of the forthcoming Land Rover Freelander 3, which has been spotted cold weather testing wearing Evoque bodywork.
The longer wheelbase and increased ride height reveal this as an early engineering prototype, probably being used to test new suspension components and suspension geometry.
The Freelander is currently the Land Rover marque's best-selling model. It was launched in its current form in 2006 and given a mild makeover for 2013. The third-gen model is expected to go on sale in early 2015. It promises to be a significant step forward from the current Freelander, offering greater wading depth, better interior packaging and improved boot space.
The new Freelander is based on the same LR-MS platform as the Evoque. It was developed from the Ford EUCD platform that underpins the current Freelander, although Land Rover says 90 per cent of the parts are new.
The Freelander 3’s wheelbase is expected to be more than 150mm longer than the Evoque’s and it's also expected to open the way for a seven-seat version. It will be fitted with JLR’s all-new, super-frugal ‘Hotfire’ four-cylinder engines, which will be built at a new plant near Wolverhampton.
The new Freelander is expected to be made from a mixture of materials, with nearly all of the platform and upper body made from high-strength steel. The roof and bonnet will be aluminium and the front wings and tailgate are likely to be made from composites.
The entry-level, front-wheel-drive Freelander 3 is expected to have a CO2 rating as low as 119g/km.

Are you sure this is the Freelander, looks more like the 7 seat Evoque JLR have been talking about. It would be a shame if the Freelander ended up looking like the Evoque,

+1 (y)

Having "3 Evoque's" in 3-different sizes or rather then two look alikes (RR Sport and Freelander) seems just plain stupid!

then again it's worked pretty well for BMW where the 3, 5 & 7 all look the same, and Audi where the A4, A6 & A8 all look the same.

Aren't you the one who didn't like the X5 because it looked like an X3?

I am, sometimes looking the same is a fail when the car you're aping isn't a looker. Luckily for BMW their sedans are all rather attractive, same with Audi.

Next-gen Land Rover Freelander will receive Defender nameplate - report

Due in 2015
A new report indicates the next generation of the Land Rover Freelander will be sold with the Defender moniker.
In May we heard a rumor about Land Rover dropping the Freelander nameplate for the next generation and now British media reports the car will receive the Defender moniker. Internally codenamed L550, the new generation will essentially be a baby Discovery and will allegedly be shown in production guise in September 2014 at the Paris Motor Show.
A Land Rover representative told Automotive News Europe "the Defender will go out of production by the middle of the decade due to legislative reasons" but didn't want to elaborate on the story.
Auto Express mentions this decision is part of Land Rover's new long-term strategy to have three distinctive pillars in its model lineup. The first one is "Luxury" with the trio Range Rovers and an additional upper-spec 120,000 GBP Range Rover Ultimate which will be shown in November at the Dubai Motor Show. There will also be a fifth model in the form of a long wheelbase Range Rover which we shall see at next month's Los Angeles Auto Show.
The second pillar, dubbed "Dual Purpose", will encompass the revamped Defender family, while the "Leisure" pillar will contain the Discovery. The latter will look more rugged than the stylish Range Rovers and will be offered at first as a five-seater, but a 5+2 model is already planned. While the underpinnings will be taken from the current Freelander, the new Discovery will boast new engines, interior and body panels.

The current Freelander is a laughably unreliable and cramped POS... But then again so was the original.

Why is it that when I see photos of the supposably Gen 3 Freelander all I think of is LWB Evoque, their looks are so similar even for a product sharing the new family styling.

2015 Land Rover Freelander spied wearing a production body

Could be introduced sometime next year

The 2015 Land Rover Freelander has been spied wearing a production body.
Caught undergoing testing in England, the redesigned crossover is significantly larger than its predecessor and will reportedly be based on the same platform that underpins the five-door Range Rover Evoque.
The styling is hard to make out but we can clearly see the model will be heavily influenced by the Evoque and Range Rover Sport. As a result, the model has a prominent grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. We can also see a sloping roofline, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a dual exhaust system.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but could carryover from the Evoque. This means choices could include:

A 2.2-liter diesel with 150 HP (110 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque

A 2.2-liter diesel with 190 HP (139 kW) and 420 Nm (309 lb-ft) of torque

A 2.0-liter petrol with 240 HP (176 kW) and 340 Nm (250 lb-ft) of torque
