Phantom Rolls-Royce Phantom Facelift

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.
Rolls-Royce receives order for 30 bespoke Extended Wheelbase Phantoms

Two of them will be the most expensive Phantoms ever commissioned
Rolls-Royce has announced Stephen Hung has purchased the largest Phantom fleet in the world.

The order consists of 30 bespoke Extended Wheelbase Phantoms and two of them are the most expensive Phantoms ever commissioned thanks to numerous gold-plated accents on both the interior and exterior.

Rolls-Royce declined to go into specifics but they confirmed the cars will feature bespoke clocks designed and created by Graff Luxury Watches. The pictures also suggest the cars will have embroidered headrests, starlight headliners and special instrumentation.

The cars will be used for the new Louis XIII hotel in Macau which is slated to open in the first half of 2016.

According to Hung, "Macau is rapidly evolving into the luxury capital of the world and we are honored to have the opportunity to add to Macau’s many distinctions, the world’s largest fleet of Rolls-Royce Phantoms, including the two most luxurious vehicles Rolls-Royce has ever built. Louis XIII and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars share the same philosophy: to deliver the perfect experience to the world’s most discerning customers."

I am a believer that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

That said, the red example of the Phantom used by the Louis XIII hotel is just monstrously gaudy. Why would you do that? It feels like it's screaming at me with its red paint and cheesy interior seats. A Rolls shouldn't yell at you.

You think it's gaudy?

I, on the other hand, would love to arrive to my masquerade in one. ;)

Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection unveiled at Paris Motor Show
Limited to 20 units
Rolls-Royce has introduced the Phantom Metropolitan Collection limited edition at the Paris Motor Show.

Several months ago Rolls-Royce launched the Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection and now they have another product called Metropolitan Collection developed through their high-end bespoke customization program. This latest iteration of the Phantom will be built in a limited series of 20 units and all will pay homage to the great metropolises of the world through marquetry which refers to inlaying small pieces of wood veneer to form decorative motifs.

On the picnic table there are no less than 500 individual wood veneer pieces showing an elevated view of the city, a job that requires several days to complete while closing the tables provides a different view of the city. The vehicle also comes with an array of individual wood veneers carefully selected and there's also a unique Aetherius Grey leather hue together with 6,800 two-tone stitches on the central rear seat flutes which show an abstract image of a skyscraper.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection comes with a bespoke clock extending the theme to the front of the vehicle and on the central console there is a rotating bezel expressing 24 cites of the world. On the outside it has a Darkest Tungsten paint and a hand-applied coachline representing the abstract silhouette of modern skyscrapers.

The Phantom is just plain old now and that particular version is tacky as hell. Poor taste.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection

Published on Oct 5, 2014

The Phantom Metropolitan Collection pays homage to the world’s great metropolises through the meticulous application of marquetry – the art of inlaying small pieces of wood veneer to form decorative motifs. When open, Phantom’s signature picnic table presents occupants with an elevated view of the city, created through the expert application of 500 individual wood veneer pieces. Indeed, the process of hand-cutting, colouring, shaping and applying is so complex these unique objects d’art take an expert wood craftsperson several days to complete. On closing the tables, a different perspective of the cityscape is offered – reflecting the view one gets when effortlessly travelling in the rear of a Phantom.

Meticulous care is taken when selecting the individual wood veneers. Minute imperfections such as knots and flecks lead to instant rejection. Adjustments to the colour of each piece are made through the traditional hand-process of hot-sand shading before a final inspection under magnification on a light box to ensure perfection.

The cityscape theme extends beyond Phantom’s many wood surfaces. A specially developedAetherius Grey leather colour was created to echo the colour palette of the modern city whilst 6,800 two-tone stitches to the central rear seat flutes depict an abstract image of a skyscraper. A specially developed Bespoke clock extends the theme to the front of the car. For the first time in the marque’s history, a rotating bezel expressing 24 of the great cities of the world and their time zones – Paris included – adorns the central console of a Rolls-Royce motor car.

An exterior hue, Darkest Tungsten, inspired by city skylines finishes the exterior surfaces of the motor car on display in Paris. However, as afforded to any Rolls-Royce customer, the full palette of 44,000 colours is available to those commissioning a Phantom Metropolitan Collection motor car. Should that not be enough, the marque’s Bespoke craftspeople will create a perfect match of any colour or object a customer may wish to replicate. The exterior is completed with a hand-applied coachline that depicts an abstract silhouette of modern skyscrapers.

How did Denver and Anchorage make the clock surround? I wouldn't consider them world capitals.

Regardless, this edition is perhaps my favorite as I love the metropolitan side of life. Also, it appears there is a possible shoutout to Dallas' Reunion Tower in the wooden inlays. (y)

The veneer work is interesting and very detailed. "Darkest Tungsten" looks rather flattering on it.

How did Denver and Anchorage make the clock surround? I wouldn't consider them world capitals.

Possibly because they are the most prominent cities for that particular time-zone.

Rolls-Royce has announced plans to introduce the Phantom Serenity at the Geneva Motor Show.

Designed to celebrate the "historical role played by silk as a symbol of regal and imperial power," the one-off model promises to have an opulent interior that draws inspiration from previous models built for Kings, Queens, Emperors and Empresses. The company also said we can expect "contemporary interpretations of European furniture combined with Japanese Royal Kimono designs."

That's not much to go on but the teaser image reveals the car will have bespoke instrument dials, smoked cherry wood trim and unique floor mats with silk accents. We can also expect woven silk seats, a silk "blossom" headliner and mother of pearl inlays.

The car will be unveiled on March 3rd, so stay tuned for full details.

Rolls Royce Serenity – 2015 Geneva Live
Said to have the most luxurious interior.

At the ongoing 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Rolls Royce has showcased the Serenity. Based on the Rolls Royce Phantom, the Serenity is another creation of the Rolls Royce Motor Cars Bespoke Design Team.

The car features what the British marque likes to call “the most opulent interior of any luxury car,” and has used textile to achieve the same. The one-off car showcases the extent to which a Rolls Royce could be customised.

The car is mounted on polished 7-spoke wheels matching the bonnet and grille in chrome. The interior comes with a Sakura tree graphics on the headliner with red leaves. This floral theme is continued on the doors pads and on the running stripe along the side of the car.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Serenity (2015)

That may not be to everyone's taste, but I think the point of this Serenity variant is to show just how bespoke/custom you can have your Phantom compared to the new Maybach/Pullman. There's luxury...and then there's this.

And then there is taste..... Money can't buy it obviously.

@Merc1: You have given me an old rating for a posting in October last year although you have posted a comment which is obviously referred to my post at the same day.
Therefore your rating is not coherent for me. :)

This most recent post is actually incoherent.

Hmm, very Japanese in style.

I do think it's one of the more interesting interiors Rolls-Royce has done.

The silk upholstery is not very practical for a car interior ...lol.

I think this clearly shows how different Rolls-Royce is from its competitors ......only Rolls-Royce could get away with this without it being entirely dismissed as kitsch.

The pin stripes on Rolls-Royce cars are all hand painted.
One can only imagine how stressful that job is.

What was old? Explain it, please. Thanks.

Didn't you just say that I explained the rating in the post after the rating? So what are you talking about, do you know?

Now I see what you mean. You have comment my posting at the same day when I have posted it. But it was no comment referred to my posting that it is old only that the car itself is "old".
And you have given me the rating yesterday. And I refer it to my post that this was an repost and you given for this reason this rating.
