5 Series [Spyshots] BMW 5 Series F10 Facelift Spy Information

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

Off topic, but I must respond so forgive me for perpetuating the conversation regarding this matter. Simply put, the E-class "substantial" FL was needed because the old car looked like crap.

The F10 is a great success in my view design wise and therefore did not need as much "help". The changes are subtle but sharpen the appearance of an already great looking car.

Plus the fact that the new E class front is pretty horrible looking to begin with...

Hah well im in the camp that thinks the front looked just as good if not better on the Pre FL car..

The FL E looks more sleek and less imposing..
Good in many ways..but i like my benzes to be mean and commanding.

The pre FL did that alot better ( when it comes to the front)

Mercedes changed that front end of the E three times in total. Twice BEFORE the major refresh. I wonder why.
me to.
probably to keep it in line with the rest of the line up..
Like new fog lights and other exhaust tips.. those kind of changes

Please, stop it. And somebody pleas clean up this thread of this 5er vs E-class gibberish.

I think those chrome are for Li only? at least i hope, it doesn't need that much..

I think the original E's front was OK, it followed its quad headlights tradition, it matched the car's boxy profile, then bang, came the new 5 and the new A6, and behind the scenes MB was obviously working on some roundy shapes as well, the latest iterations of MBs we see now. The C class was lucky enough to have escaped and a milder FL was applied, but it's like they saw the new 5 and A6, both are almighty smooth and elegant, the E class even looks rude though I don't say it looks bad, but suddenly no one was following their trend of going old-school or back to the old traditions... the pontoon line, the boxy shape and those rectangular rear lights with simple graphics, and even the squar-ish interior are evidence of what they tried to do, and they chose to not hang on, just simply dropped it and made this E facelift which imo, 1) disrespects customers of the pre FL and 2) disrespects the original design because the new stuff doesn't match the body at all. It's all evidence, not bashing, but enough anyway.

Love this facelift. BMW shows that they designed something timeless, something that didn't need to be changed and ruined in essence of the core idiom initially penned, therefore it needed little to no changes.

You know a car is great when the creators believe it is "perfection" enough to the point where it needs very little changes. Certain manufacturers and designers can learn from that.

Thats the problem for me, it almost disrespects prefl car and makes it unwanted. And i loved prefl E front! Probably even more than fl one, its just that overall shape of the car doesnt work for me

Exactly. Therefore in history, the F10 will be as highly regarded throughout its timeline by the masses as much as it is visually by its creators. Drastic facelift changes prove something needed fixing to begin with, therefore will effect the "legacy" of said model.

where is air curtain? And there is one thing, which I dislike: fog lights! It would be better if it will be ala 6er or 7er hybrid concept

Front-end is a nice refresh - not too radical, it didn't need it. I wonder if the M5 will get more radical changes to ward off the extreme E63 facelift..

IMO the M5 doesn't need any radical changes. The XF-R aside, I still think the M5 is best looking among the three german, with its good compromise between aggressiveness and understatement. With the optional full-LED it has everything. The only radical change the M5 needs is optional xDrvie and an optional power upgrade, to continue playing its traditional role as the most powerful sedan. Unfortunately it has to compensate for its weight, something I am 100% sure will not be the case with its successor.

I agree - full LED will be awesome, but they need to make the side vent proper brushed alloy as opposed to shiny silver plastic (small matter) and better fuel consumption would be welcome. I've read in two or three places that during real tests it consumes more fuel than the larger capacity E63. Not sure if its true..

They have squashed the F10 kidney grille and lights and made it look the same as the F30. The front is the only part of the F30 that I don't like. I prefer the pre face lift F10 front.

Well, you can´t say it´s ugly, as the F10 is anything but ugly. But it really does not improve anything about the car, but changes a few things up. Nose is probably better, healights too, and bumper clearly worse.

I would say it has the same problem the pre-LCI has and the E39 had. It´s soooo so soft and non aggressive that it gets a bit boring with the years.

But with the M Pack it will be a very desirable car, for sure.
