Bentley GTC Vs. Bentley Concept Java

At Geneva in 1994 Bentley unveiled a concept for a compact Bentley, the "Concept Java". Despite positive feedback from dealers and customers, Bentley never pursued it -- most likely for financial reasons. After Bentley was acquired by VW in 1998, the dream to build a compact Bentley model was rekindled ..eventually resulting in the Continental GT.

So, here is the Bentley Continental GTC compared with the 1994 Concept Java.

I wonder if the Mercedes-Benz designers took some inspiration from this concept -- those headlights remind me of the ones on the W220.

The styling of the Concept Java was clearly a further development of the Bentley Continental R ....and some aspects of the design [like the rear lights etc.] became the blueprint for the Arnage.

If you look carefully you can see the distinctive dashboard that found it's way into production in the Continental GT and Flying Spur.

GTC from the front doesn't look good at all, afaic. In fact the whole convertible doesn't look good to me...

.... took this car and it's design as inspiration when they were designing the C70...

I'm sure many cars have taken this design as inspiration. I think there's also some RR:ish about the front of the Concept Java. As for the GTC, seems like contrary to the prevailing opinion about the exterior, I quite like it. Interior is great too, just think that brown and black might not be the best color combination.

As a side issue, Keith Richards was once asked what his favorite car was. His answer was his Bentleys.

The GTC represents design excellence just like the Continental GT which is a multiple design award winner.

The Java looks dated which is no surprise since 12 years is a really long time.

The fact that it looks dated doesn't mean that it doesn't look good. I actually like it more than the, multiple awards winner, CGT. It is true, though, that the Concept Java reminds me of many other cars, including the C70. For some reason it reminds me of the typical Aston Martin front..
