    Audi's hot new RS6 will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 with 572bhp

Audi is preparing to take on the latest BMW M5 and soon-to-be-revised Mercedes E63 AMG with an all-new Audi RS6. Power will come from an uprated version of the new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 from the S6, S7 and S8.

Caught testing at the Nürburgring, the new RS6 is expected to make its public debut at next year’s Geneva show, with UK sales starting in mid-2013. It will be sold as both a saloon and an estate.
The new force-fed V8 replaces the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 of its predecessor. Developed with Bentley, it kicks out a nominal 513bhp in the S8.

However, detailed changes, including added turbocharger boost pressure, are said to liberate a further 59bhp, taking it to 572bhp — the same output as the old V10 and well beyond the 414bhp of the S6 saloon and Avant. Torque is also set to climb beyond the 479lb ft of the S8. One Audi insider told Autocar that it’ll be more than 516lb ft.

The RS6’s power will eclipse both the 552bhp of the M5 and the maximum 549bhp available with the current E63 AMG.

Drive will be apportioned to all four wheels by Audi’s torque-sensing all-wheel drive system, complete with an active rear differential with torque vectoring. It’s so far unclear if the new car will come with an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox or a newer seven-speed, dual-clutch auto.
Greater use of aluminium and carbonfibre will help to reduce weight by up to 100kg over its predecessor.

Nothing is official, but expect 0-62mph acceleration in under 4.5sec and a top speed limited to 155mph — well short of the potential 198mph that Audi engineers claim.

bla bla bla. Autocar is out of material this month it seems. I hate those kind of hollow articles that add nothing to the readers.

Interested to hear that saloon with also be offered, that in my opinion means the US will probably get it too. This 100kg lighter than C6 RS6 will be needed to remain competitive because unlike the old RS6 which enjoyed a huge advantage over the M5 this time round that advantage is very small.

Based on these figures it's too close to call.

Exaxtly. They can give the car 700 hp, it will still be an Audi RS. AKA, a very fast VW. AMG and M don't have to worry.

Audi, Cadillac, Jaguar and Lexus are notorious for being late to the party. By the time of the new RS6's arrival, the F10 M5 will be approaching the end of its lifespan and a new M5 will be under testing. Anyway, I want more lightness for the new RS6; the C6 RS6 was a porker.

^unless I'm mistaken mid 2013 isn't at the end of the M5, far from it. It seems that Audi are wanting to bring their RS models earlier than ever previously before.

Yeah quite right, just like the Aventador and the Veyron all just fast Volkswagens. LOL

The IS-F was not late to the party, just not enough good for an M3, but next one may be different.

Lool yea and the r8, nothing special just a fast VW

^ Nah, the R8 is just a cheap knock off of the Gallardo. It's what Audi does best after all; stealing parts from the VAG group.
And the 911 has nothing at all to do with Audi or VW or even VAG...THANK THE LORDS!!!

To a giant extend, they certainly are. But a Lambo is not quite a rebuilt VW like an Audi, no. I can give you that.

Audis, Skodas and Seats are just VW/VAG cars with lipstick for a big part to me (and factually as well)

    Fixed that for you. ;)

Next 911 may be, it may share the same mid-rear engined chassis with the R8 and Cabrera. The 911 "GT" would become a "Panamera Coupé" called 929, the successor of 928.

I know. It makes me cry just thinking about that :(

Aren't you lucky you have your BMW pals in high places to turn a blind eye at your constant shit stirring. On any other forum you would have been shown to door years ago. Why not try and add something to a discussion instead of this BS we only seem to get from you.

Audi makes the aluminium space frame for the Gallardo, and the space frame used on the R8 is more advanced with a reduced amount of components. So give credit when credit is due instead of dishing out blind criticism.

If the customers are happy to pay then there is nothing wrong with that.

Speaking from personal experience? You can ignore his post, or you can reply with some constructive information...please take your own advice for yourself.

^The difference is that myself and other have been shown the door for far less and I would love to be constructive, tried that many times before as has others yet these constant remarks keep coming. Trust me you haven't a clue just how many are P/off with this.

Yeah, there was some hyperbole from my part there. The R8 is a great car indeed. Definitely unlike the rest of the line up ;)

    Oh come on now.
If the topic line specifically mentions the M5, these are the replies that are to be expected. Better to move this topic to Internal Combustion where it actually belongs!

For what would I be banned exactly? It's insane to even mention it. I know you want me gone, but this is not the way my man. And stop making things personal and off topic. Just send a PM to a mod.

In any case this thread is FAIL. We have no more info about the RS6, so we can't compare it to its rivals. To answer to the question if the RS6 really will outpunch the M5 we have only to wait. It may happen that yes, but like most other times, it may just fail its attempt like the RS5, though good looking.

Autocar didn't say the RS6 would be better, faster or anything other than more powerful than the M5. There was no comparison of anything other than max power.

"Audi RS6 to outpunch BMW M5" is explained in the fourth paragraph "The RS6’s power will eclipse both the 552bhp of the M5 and the maximum 549bhp available with the current E63 AMG".

"Audi is preparing to take on the latest BMW M5 and soon-to-be-revised Mercedes E63 AMG with an all-new Audi RS6" makes it pretty clear to me that Autocar will compare the other characteristics later.

Autocar confirm the power for the 2013 RS6 and the use of torque-vectoring for the first time in this article. I wouldn't describe the Autocar article as "hollow" and "adding nothing to the readers" but I would say that your own post fits those criteria pretty well.

If the RS6 is 100kg lighter than it's predecessor due to the use of more carbon fibre and aluminium then I will be impressed with Audi. I won't be surprised when the haters still hate though.

Quite right ACE and even my reply isn't implying that I think it will blow the others out of the water far from it in fact, I reckon this will be necessary along with that 100kg to remain competitive.
