I think a huge Facelift of the interior is possible because they can't sell the new MLC with the old ML interior.

The ML Class is not a bad looking vehicle, I personally think they need to concentrate on upgrading the interior to be on the same level as New C-Class and V-Class

If the interior is real than its the first really attractive interior in a Mercedes mid sized SUV. As far as exterior is concerned, the ML is neither attractive up front or the rear or from the side, the current one or the previous generations.. Mercedes should study their own G class design to see why that design is so timeless. I remember smaller versions of G class and even the spartan ones look better than anything on M class or even the GL class. ML makeover is as important as the SL makeover and I have high hopes from the current design team.

Yep, the real game going on here is Swabia versus Swabia - for mastery of the total automotive world.

Porsche has the upper hand in mastery of outright driving dynamics but Mercedes-Benz is hand over fist making gains in design, infotainment and safety technology and all-round luxury appeal.

BMW and Audi are currently the masters of the sales tallies, but the Swabians are beginning to reassert their traditional dominance of all things automotive.

The Swabians' parsimony combined with their high regard for the physical sciences - bit like the Scots of the 18/19th centuries - may just have the beating of their currently high-riding BMW and Audi Bavarian rivals yet.

The future X6-rival Mercedes MLC, the secret of which is to be aired in April 2014, is still going on sale this year - but there is also something new to report about the "conventional" brother of the SUV-coupe: Daimler is working on a refresh for the Mercedes M-Class, since the W166 series was introduced already at the end of 2012 and the nominal four-year cycle is coming to an end.

LOL, what?? The V class is a van filled to the brim with cheap materials and hard plastics. Trust me, you don't want that in a car that will cost around 4 times as much.

You are right. The 2009 E-Class and 2011 M-Class, and 2012 SL were timid, tepid designs. Thankfully the ~€1 billion spent on the E-Class facelift worked and that car is now shifting major units.

I think we can see that Mercedes have done the same to the M-Class - thrown the kitchen sink at it - to rescue it from mediocrity.

Zetsche and his people deserve major praise for such a turnaround, founded on huge investment - see today's announcement of the 9-speed auto being made in the Romanian facility in addition from 2016 - and letting talented people show what they can do whether they be AMG chassis engineers, world-beating NVH engineers, or Wagener's design team. For instance, the new C-Class is so good, especially in terms of refinement, that even Auto Bild has had to row back on its initial attempt to do it down, now finding it setting new class standards for comfort:

Those air vents with iPad screen look good but certainly it reminds me of the Porsche vents!!
