CLS [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS Facelift SpyShots/info

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
Either that or just spend the money and redesign the dash so the screen fits and doesn't look like an afterthought. I'm having nightmares about them putting these screens on all the cars Mr Mercedes listed. UGH.

A MB Passion poster may have figured out, why MB likes this config. :)

I never understood the vehement opposition to freestanding screens. A screen is a central information point for all the car's occupants. For the driver HUD and instrument display is included. Instead the freestanding screen has to be seen from all seats. the space at the top of the center console is an alternative and competes with: ventilation , central control elements and communication equipment - everything wants to be placed as high up on the console.
So before the rear seat passengers have their own screens in standard trim, the screen position on the dashboard is optimal. deployable monitors were the precursors. looks clean when not in use. however, it quickly turned out that practically everybody left the monitor always extended while driving and the mechanism was prone to failure.
so I think the prominently visible centrally located monitor is acceptable. those who associate free-standing monitors as cheap, should know that the G-Class, the most expensive vehicle in the daimler program, also has a monitor.

This is not good news. If you've seen the new CLA's with this COMAND setup, the screens look cheap and entirely out of place. And I'm talking about a $ 30K car. Mercedes is going to ruin the CLS with this new dash/COMAND setup.

Here is an IRL picture of the COMAND in a CLA:

That one looks like chinese copies of Ipad.

I think most of us here don't associate free standing monitor as cheap if the design is done properly. The glass surface on the monitor covers all the way to the edges of the bezel, and screen is one flat surface, like a tablet. But what we are seeing now is something that looks like a portable sat nav display from the early 2000s.

The full Command system is far more acceptable then the lower end Becker unit. The unit that appears to be fitted to the new C and CLS looks even better than the Command in the A and CLA.

I really have no problem with the standup screen. In the situation of the CLS MB had to do it. They are competing with the 6 series that has a HUGE screen. To integrate such a big one in the CLS' dash would one be costly, and possibly impossibly because of the layout of AC vents etc., which isn't something you can easily change on a facelift. The screen itself looks to be bigger than the CLA's.

The only thing I don't like, though I haven't seen it in person yet, is the fact that the plastic bracket behind the screen that covers all the connections is a little obvious on the CLA. Maybe if they made that bracket metal and made it look more like a nice stand like an iMAc, it would be better...

I have to admit the screen has grown on me. They're able to offer varied sizes, also it sits up high, without making the dashboard higher. A little less plastic would be nice, obviously. Is the screen in the CLS now bigger than that of the E-Class ? I guess it is meant to be a class above.

The current CLS and the current E have the same size of screen. Both are 7 inch.

They didn't do away with the side creases huh?

Is there a stick up screen now present. Oh boy......
