S-Class [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe/Cabriolet

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

I bet on this one.

I don´t think the clay model is the S-Coupe. If something is clear on these spy pics, is that the rearlights are horizontal, unlike the S-Class ones.

I pretty much like the sportier intentions comments. I hope we can see a more distinctive interior when compared to the S-Class.

BTW, what if the S-Concept we see on Geneva that SCOTT talked about is the S-Coupe?

When I first saw theses pictures there was something familiar. Even though they are not competition at all there are same styling characteristics in common IMO. The sidewindows shape and the c pillars look similar.

Could well be. Here's an article talking about Aston Martin inspired rear styling? :)

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe caught
Tipped to be called the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, the replacement for the seven-year-old CL-Class has been snapped exclusively for the first time.

The extra-large luxury coupe will return to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class line-up, just as the E-Class Coupe usurped the CLK-Class in 2009.

Revealing a similar front end to the all-new sixth-generation S-Class sedan caught almost undisguised yesterday, the coupe sports an even larger, lower and wider front grille, with a more steeply raked body.

The new S-Class Coupe flaunts an even higher and more sweeping beltline than the sedan, and bulged rear haunches. Rear styling appears strikingly similar to an Aston Martin, with wide, low tail-lights melding into a bootlid with an in-built aerodynamic ‘lip’.

As with the current CL-Class, frameless doors and a B-pillarless body continue as hallmarks of the flagship Mercedes-Benz coupe.

Compared with the outgoing CL-Class, the new S-Class Coupe is expected to sell at a similar $50K premium over the sedan, with a range of pricetags from $350-$550K.

While the next-generation S-Class sedan will debut later this year, this S-Class Coupe is in the very early stages of on-road testing and isn’t expected until 2014.

Both will be a showcase of Mercedes-Benz engineering, previewing safety and equipment technology that will eventually filter down into mainstream models.

Yeah right! NO way this is true.

The rear is very reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz Coupe concept from the late nineties which previewed the S-Klasse W220 and CL W215.
But yes I do see the comparison with the Laguna Coupe.

Our spy photographer even posits that this will be "the best-looking car from Mercedes-Benz in ages."

Gulp!

looks like another less than desirable design for the CL. For me the W215 was the best looking CL. The W216 was a disappointment for me and sales will probably show the preference of the W215 over the W216.

Seems ironic to me that it is right when the names are joined up (S Class and S Coupe) that the sedan and coupe start looking very completely different. The CL appears at least a size down on the S Class and has a much more Aston-Martin feeling to it (or better, 6-Series coupe or Jaguar XK). The new S-Coupe appears much lower, and I am almost tempted to say it looks based on the E-Class. I pray that it isn't.

That would not be a fair comparison given the economic climate both these cars were in at debut. For the record, I love the W216.

It seems much of the height trim comes out of the greenhouse. It is something I like: the past CLS always made the CL look stodgy because the greenhouse was higher. The CL being B-pillar-less, perception of suffocation should not be an issue.

Most likely this car now should also weigh less than the S-Class by a wider margin than before. I cannot wait for the AMGs. CL65 4matic!
