V-Class/Vito [Official] Mercedes-Benz V-Class (W447)

The Mercedes-Benz Vito/V-Class/Viano/EQV is a mid-sized light commercial vehicle (LCV) produced by Mercedes-Benz, available as a panel van, chassis cab, or multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), carrying cargo or up to eight passengers. In the Mercedes-Benz van lineup, it is positioned between the larger Sprinter and the smaller Citan.
In continuation of my previous comment about the wood or FAKE wood, is it only me or are you guys in agreement that alot of the new cars have got an obsession with using FAKE aluminium trim for the dashboards and door panels?

I was honestly shocked recently when I sat in the F30 BMW 3 series and also the 1 series with the aluminium look trim panels and noticed these are not real aluminium or metal trim pieces and also they are not really dense and do definitely feel like plastic. The wood trim in the F30 is a better bet it looks and feels more expensive.

Unlike Mercedes which in the C-Class really do use metal trim and feels like good quality to the touch.

I am amazed car manufacturers don't try using unusual materials, like for instance graphite marble panels (either black or black with sparkles and cream and black speckles) with some chrome metal surround pieces or some faded wood panels without laquar, like old furniture and kitchen counters!!!
Oh yeah, doesn't matter how good the fake aluminium trim is, it still feels and look cheap, also I have noticed a growing trend of using gloss black plastic as interior trim. As for graphite marble panels, Mercedes did offer it as an option, I am not sure if they still do.

^ Granite / natural stone trim is still available through the designo program. :)

Try as I might I can't find a picture of the long and short wheelbase together, I'd like to see the difference in size visually. I can't find the dimensions of any Mercedes site either....gurrrr....

^ At the market launch in late May only the long version is available, the others follow lateron, perhaps in early 2015. :)

With three body lengths and two wheelbases the new V-Class provides the basis for the maximum in terms of individualisation options to comply with the individual requirements of the different target groups. At market launch the long V-Class will roll to the dealerships. The compact and extra-long variants will follow in due course.
  • V-Class long version: length 5140 mm, wheelbase 3200 mm, extended overhang
  • V-Class compact version: length 4895 mm, wheelbase 3200 mm
  • V-Class extra-long version: length 5370 mm, wheelbase 3430 mm, extended overhang
An advantage shared by all variants is their good suitability for everyday use. With a standard overall height of 1.88 metres, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class can be driven into all normal-sized garages, multi-storey car parks, underground car parks and car washes.

I can already see it being used in Lufthansa's First Class Lounge in Frankfurt.

(On the side note, I wonder what would AMG or BRABUS do with this thing... :D)

Mercedes Unveils New Marco Polo Camper Van Based on All-New V-Class

At the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, Mercedes-Benz will debut a new camper van based on the latest-gen V-Class. Called the Marco Polo after the famous Italian merchant traveler, the camper van is a rival for the Volkswagen California.
Developed in cooperation with camper van specialist and Mercedes-Benz partner Westfalia, the Marco Polo is fitted with a series of practical features - from the stowage facilities and seating/sleeping arrangements to the camping equipment for outdoors.

The interior features high-quality materials, a warm color scheme and a modern furniture design, with all these giving the impression of “unexpectedly generous space,” according to Mercedes-Benz. The carmaker adds that the Marco Polo is equally suitable for long journeys and day-to-day and urban motoring thanks to its "powerful and efficient engines, comfortable suspension, compact exterior dimensions and good maneuverability".

For cooking, the kitchenette is equipped with two gasburners, a sink and a compressor refrigerator with a capacity of 40 liters and a cooling output of up to minus 20 degrees Celsius. The fresh water tank has a capacity of 38 liters, the waste water tank 40 liters.

For sleeping, the two-seater bench in the rear can be repositioned on rails, while the backrest, which is divided into two, can be individually electrically adjusted on each side. At the touch of a button, it can be converted into a single bed within seconds, or into a double bed measuring 2.03 m by 1.13 m. Under the pop-up roof there is another bed measuring 2.05 m by 1.13 m.

"Two camping chairs and a table for use outside offer additional independence. When they are not in use, they are stowed in a bag within the luggage compartment under the bed extension," says Mercedes' press release.

The V-Class-based Marco Polo camper van is available with three four-cylinder turbo diesel engines in three output variants (134hp, 161hp and 188hp). Orders can be placed in Germany starting July 29.

I wish I could be fly on the wall during the meetings in MBUSA headquarters when they discuss trying to sell this thing in the U.S.

^ Here's the latest interview with Bernie Glaser, MBUSA's van manager. :)

In an interview with Automotive News, Mercedes-Benz USA vice president Bernie Glaser, who is in charge of the company's van unit, said that the Sprinter sub-brand is well-positioned to take advantage of the growing popularity of European-style tall vans. Mercedes-Benz recently introduced an updated V-Class rear-wheel-drive van in Europe, which is slightly smaller and lower than the Sprinter, more oriented toward passenger duty than cargo hauling. A van smaller than the Sprinter, believed to be based on the V-Class is reportedly under consideration for the U.S. market.

New V-Class wins renowned design prize: New V-Class receives "Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014"

  • New V-Class impresses with elegance and sportiness
  • Additional awards go to Mercedes-Benz C-Class, GLA and S-Class Coupé
  • Red Dot is a globally coveted seal of quality for design
As part of the Red Dot Gala held on 7 July 2014 in Essen, the new Mercedes-Benz V-Class received the Red Dot Award: Product Design in what is one of the world's largest product competitions for design quality.

The MPV impressed the jury primarily with its elegance and sportiness. Thanks to its design elements, the new V-Class is unmistakably a member of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car family and exudes an air of modern luxury. The powerful front is underscored by an upright radiator grille with three-dimensional, centrally positioned star and gives the vehicle its character. Typical features of the brand also include the headlamps which extend far into the wings. In the interior too the V-Class demonstrates the clear design philosophy: the cockpit in particular features strong passenger car characteristics, with the design of the circular instruments, the ventilation outlets and the freestanding central display. Both the contrasting interplay of sensuality and clarity in the interior of the MPV and the intelligent use of space are hallmark features of Mercedes-Benz. This creates a refined and pleasant sense of a generous amount of space.
"Sensuous, dynamic contours, intelligently showcased high tech and exquisite high-class appeal make the V-Class an automotive icon that blends elegance and functionality to perfection. The new V-Class is a self-confident statement of modern luxury and embodies our design philosophy of sensual purity in striking fashion," says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG.

New V-Class impresses with elegance and sportiness
The independent expert jury comprising members from different countries was impressed by the design quality of the V-Class. "Its elegant and at the same time sporty design makes the V-Class a modern MPV offering plenty of space", said the jury in its reasoning statement in the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2014/2015.
In addition to the V-Class, three other passenger car models from Mercedes-Benz received prizes as part of the Red Dot Award: Product Design. The Red Dot for high design quality went to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as well as the Mercedes-Benz GLA. The S-Class Coupé was honoured with the "Honourable Mention" award for particularly well-implemented detailed solutions.

Red Dot is the global seal of quality for design
The so-called Red Dot Award, which stands for a high standard of design, is granted each year by a panel made up of international experts. This year some 1816 manufacturers, designers and architects from 53 countries submitted their products and projects in an effort to win the coveted Red Dot. The 40-man jury made it decisions on the winners for 2014 as part of an evaluation process lasting several days. In addition to the award for the outstanding design quality of products, prizes are also awarded for communication design and design concepts.

Brabus Mercedes-Benz V-Class Teased ahead of Moscow Motor Show Debut

Despite the international conflicts, the Moscow International Motor Show, which kicks off tomorrow, is set to bring plenty of freshness to the automotive world. One of the most lavish creation to make its debut at the event is Brabus’ take on the Mercedes-Benz V-Class.

So far, the crew over in Bottrop has treated us with a series of rather shy teasers that, of course, reveal bits of the reworked interior. If you’re reading this in the morning, you can skip the coffee, the Brabus V-Class has an espresso machine on its list of goodies.

Nonetheless, the premium van will have much more to offer than that and we’re referring to the infotainment here. In the past, the aftermarket developer treated us with creations such as the Business Light, which was basically a Viano (the V-Class’ predecessor) turned into a complex mobile office.

This packed power seats in a conference layout, with 15 -inch LCD screen, a generously-sized LCD TV, a DVD changer and a digital DVBT TV tuner included. In-vehicle Wi-Fi was obviously present, while the users could place their laptops on a burled walnut conference table. And yes, the espresso machine was also there.

As expected, the cabin of the Viano was flooded with leather and Alcantara.

With the new V-Class, Mercedes-Benz has already taken the segment to new heights, introducing an S-Class-inspired design and lavish materials. Thus, we expect something truly extravagant from the German tuner.

Brabus also gifted the Viano with their customized 6.1-liter V8, which allowed the driver to control 426 hp and could play the 0 to 62 mph game in 6.2 seconds, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the tuning house gift the V-Class with more horsepower than you’ll ever need.

We mustn’t forget Brabus is also tasked with building the upcoming 2016 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman. Not to be confused with the S-Class Maybach (X222), the Pullman will be the longest and probably the most lavish incarnation of the S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class 5 stars EuroNCAP.

Adult occupant

The passenger compartment of the V-Class remained stable in the frontal impact. Protection of the passenger was good in for all body areas. Dummy readings showed good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Mercedes-Benz showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. The V-Class scored maximum points in the side barrier test, with good protection of all body areas. However, in the more severe side pole impact, dummy readings of rib deflection indicated marginal protection of the chest. A geometric assessment of the front and rear seats indicated good protection against whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision.

Child occupant
The V-Class scored maximum points for its protection of both the 1½ and 3 year dummies in the dynamic tests. Forward movement of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward-facing restraint, was not excessive. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained within the protective shells of their restraints, minimising the likelihood of head contact with parts of the vehicle interior. The child restraints were properly labelled with all relevant safety information. The passenger airbag is automatically disabled when a rearward-facing child restraint is placed on the passenger seat. The system is different from previous Mercedes-Benz systems which only worked with specific seats. As the system is not standard equipment, it was not assessed for this rating.

Pedestrian
Owing to the height and geometry of the front of the V-Class, no tests were performed against the front edge of the bonnet. The protection provided against head injury on the bonnet surface was mostly in the range from marginal to good, with poor results recorded on the stiff windscreen pillars. The bumper scored maximum points in Euro NCAP's tests, offering good protection to pedestrians' legs.

Safety assist
The V-Class has electronic stability control as standard equipment and the system met Euro NCAP's test requirements. A seatbelt reminder is standard for the driver and, for the passenger seat, is expected to be on most cars sold so the system was assessed and rewarded. A driver-set speed limitation device is available as an option. As the great majority of vehicles will be equipped with the system, it was assessed and met Euro NCAP's requirements for speed-limiters of this type.
