At the heart of GenShock is a newly designed compact valve that includes its own control unit, electric motor, and electrohydraulic gear pump that mounts to the exterior of a ZF-sourced damper. The oil flow in the damper is regulated to adapt for optimum comfort, safety, and dynamic performance, much like in more-traditional active suspensions. Unlike current designs, however, energy harvesting occurs automatically when the swaying motion of the damper—activated by wheel travel—guides the oil in such a manner that it drives the electric pump motor that functions as a generator. It’s at this point that kinetic energy is converted into electricity, which is ultimately fed into the vehicle’s electric power supply. As ZF points out, the effect is most powerful when traversing significantly battered roadways, something we have no shortage of.

Oh, I'm glad and suprised to see such a system nowadays. I'm pretty sure the idea to save dampering energy is more then 100 years old. At the start of the 20th century, when the era of electromobiles was, engineers were already thinking of and trying recuperating braking. And vertical accelerations during damping/rebounding are the biggest (or may be second after frequent accelerating/braking cycles) source of energy that could be utilized instead of being dispersed into enviroment with no use. But that days it was hardly possible to realize that ideas. And is not easy today. Frankly speaking I think it's not time for such systems now. Shown one is complicated enough, adds weight, maybe reliability and durability limitations. And common efficiency is also questionable. Because of specific small amplitudes and large forces it needs reductor. I'd like to see some ciphers from manufacturer. This system barely adds comfort, rapidness or adjustability to traditional suspension. I think nothing but energy recuperating and thus fuel economy. The ideal system seems to be electromagnetical with superconducting solenoids. And it wouldn't need additonal parts for recuperating. But it's not a very close future I think. Nevertheless I'm very happy to see progress in automobile industry in that and any other directions.

I am loving the extra bling on the front. Certainly sets the car apart from the "lesser" AMG. Would love to be surprised on the power levels (more than 630 hp). Biggest surprise would be MBC + 4Matic.

I'm waiting for S65 too. I think 650HP would be enough for me. If not, there always is opportunity to call Brabus. But the most thing I eager for is conjunction MBC with 4Matic. If Mercedes wouldn't, nobody could help us with it, even Brabus.
It is ridiculous but I started to think about S65 vs S63 4Matic last days. I like solid appearance and V12 of S65, but also I like the performance of S63's AWD. Damn! I will pray for MBC+4Matic, but I have no hope :( At least until face lifting. Anyway I'll be wating till all the gizmos like HUD, gesture control,Magic Sky Control and others come to conveyor.

I wonder if the S63 and S65 will be offered with different body kits in different markets. There was talk earlier on in the year that European AMG's would get more understated body kits compared to some other markets.

I am sure there will be a discrete body kit for the AMGs like there is on the E Class (Business Package). Europe has had regular kits for AMGs as an option for ages. I remember seeing photos of a bunch of 220s (S55 and S63 - the V12 AMG of that time) with the regular non-sport kit.

You sure this was available in the W211/W221 gen as well?

I know you can get a facelifted E63 AMG that looks like an E220 CDI from the outside (I have never seen this, would LOVE to see it), but I didn't know it existed for other models as well. Never seen an S AMG in 'discrete' suit.

I doubt it looks like a standard E220 CDI. I only saw this picture of the rear, never saw a picture of the front, but I doubt it looks different from the normal E63. I think they changed only the rear.

Walk around video of a pretty loaded S350 Bluetec in Poland...
Love the closing sound of the trunk @ 0:55, solid...

That's the interior I ordered. :) Seeing different videos of it never gets old...

Me too.

I agree. It just look like an even longer wheel base of exactly the same w222 which is a good looking car but to compete with Mulsanne and Phantom, a different exterior is needed. But I don't think that's going to be the case.

I do not recall seing 221 examples of this, unfortunately. But given the E Class program of making the 63 look like a regular E, including removing the sporty grille in favor of the regular Elegance one, I see no reason why the 222 cannot be had with a regular trim.

As for the 220, this is a link that popped during a quick search. Unfortunately, I cannot fish out an old Auto Motor Und Sport road-test from 12 years ago of the same model, in silver. This was the 220 version of today's 65, then-called S 63, a NA V12 6.3L with 444 horsepower.

I believe the front would reveal an Elegance type grille instead of the large 3-pointed star currently available on the AMG and Sport models.

You are right, that's why I really want to see it. On the facelift, I prefer the Elegance grille, and having an E63 with this style would be amazing.
I have not even seen a picture of this, while I know it exists. Very odd indeed.

Sorry for the off topic, better to relocate all posts on this subject to the E63 thread and continue the discussion there...

Well I went to the MB konfigurator and the text at the Business paket says the following:
Dieses Angebot ermöglicht es, die Dynamik des Fahrzeugs im Heckdesign deutlich dezenter zum Ausdruck zu bringen – durch die sportlich-elegante Heckschürze aus dem Sport-Paket AMG mit Zierleiste in Silberchrom und eine zweiflutige Abgasanlage mit eckigen Endrohrblenden in Edelstahl poliert.
So it concerns really only the rear. I also thought that it will concern the front as well so I am quite disappointed because E63 with an elegance front would really be gorgeous. Maybe some tuner will prepare some elegance front for avandgarde models.
