Here’s the thing about the Audi RS 3. You can point to how it was panned by Chris Harris for having too much understeer, yadda, yadda, yadda… though you can’t argue with its success. Audi sold out of its stock of the RS 3 in record time and even built an additional run of the cars for the UK market. To this measure, this is the most successful RS car quattro GmbH has built thus far. Good news then for RS 3 fans (and also for those looking for a re-match in the aforementioned Chris Harris piece). The next-generation RS 3 will be available in early 2014.

A report published today by What Car? confirms that, instead of waiting until near the end of the A3 product lifecycle as was done with the current car, the release date of the new RS 3 is just over a year away.

Power is expected to come from Audi’s potent 2.5 TFSI 5-cylinder turbo, though power may be up from the current car’s 335 bhp. We’d fully expect the Sportback configuration to continue in Europe though the USA will almost certainly get a sedan version. Either way, the new MQB-based chassis on which the next RS 3 will be based will sport more use of lightweight materials, improved handling dynamics and a considerable upgrade to the cabin and infotainment systems.

According to a recent report, Audi will introduce a new RS3 in the spring of 2014.

Little is known about the model, but quattro GmbH's chief told What Car? "Let's just say you will be seeing more of the five-cylinder engine." This likely implies the car will keep its turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder that developed 340 HP (250 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.
It remains unclear if the engine will feature some extra power, but even if it doesn't the weight reductions from the MQB platform should enable the model to be faster than its predecessor which accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
We can also expect the RS3 will have an aggressive body kit, high performance brakes and quattro all-wheel drive.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
