Can somebody scan a bigger pic so as too see the rear please.that car looks hot i wouldn mind a car simalar to that go MB.but also they need a car somewhere simalar to the current A or B for the mums taxis.merc should differenciate the two one that can take on the golf.a3 and 1er and one mini suv type.

WOW i really like it with a few changes it could be a real STAR of a car MB needs a car like this with how the market is moving.Yes some dont like a small MB but if it is made and done properly it could be awesome for Mercedes.

I would like the A to atke on a golf.1er and A3

and the B class to remain simalr to current one obviously better built and better handling.

Except I would not consider a FWD car to be a "Real Mercedes" by any measure.

Here's the twist. AMG might make the RWD version:

AMG Considers RWD Baby Benz

Upbeat Mercedes Wants to Dominate in Small Cars, Too

Mercedes-Benz in-house hot-shop AMG is considering creating a high-performance small car off the forthcoming MFA platform. But here's the twist: While the MFA, which will underpin the next-generation A-Class, B-Class, and three new small Mercedes models by 2012, is a front-drive platform, the AMG car will be rear drive. A decision on the project is due later this month.

The smallest car in the current AMG lineup is the 6.2-liter V-8-powered C63.

Mercedes has offered an AMG-modified A-Class in the past, but AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg says a front-drive performance car is incompatible with the performance company's core values. He says AMG has looked at the MFA platform and believes it can engineer a rear-drive version. "We have the capability to do it," he says.

Rear drive would give the baby AMG car steering and handling consistent with the impressive new E63, C63, and SLS models. Considering the likely packaging constraints, a big V-8 engine is obviously out of the question, but Mornhinweg hints even a four-cylinder powerplant could be tuned to deliver the high torque performance feel that's become an AMG trademark.

Transmission would be a dual-clutch manual or seven-speed Speedshift automatic. AMG version aside, the new MFA platform will play a key role in Mercedes-Benz's plans to reach 1.5 million sales worldwide by 2015. "We do not have a dominant position in the front-drive compact class," says Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche, who notes Mercedes has sold more of the new E-Class than BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 combined. With five new compact front-drive models positioned between smart and the C-Class, Zetsche clearly expects that to change.

The new small Benzes will be premium vehicles, not cut-priced entry points to the three-pointed star, insists Zetsche. "The premium and low-price segments remain the determining poles of the automotive industry," Zetsche explains.

"The problem lies in the middle, where companies without a good cost position or a good brand position will fall into the hole. We are convinced the percentage of the market that is premium will stay the same as in the past; therefore, we are very focused on this segment."

yeah merc1 i know what you saying but i am shure MB has some sort of reason by the way i dont know if this size car needs a AMG really but time will tell maybe MB wants to get some younger people in love with Mercedes and erase the perception that some still carry that Mercedes is for older people i totally disagree with that anyway if they can make something like on the previous page with a modern and decent interior and and good motors and very good drives and handling them Mercedes may well have a trumpcard here.

how i know this shows the front of the upcoming b class .i can just agree with narutoramen that the line at the frontlight looks stronger than this of the current b-class.:)

If thats the case then why not just make the platform RWD from the start. I hate the thought of a FWD Benz being sold here.

I don't get it either, and to me it sounds like BS. If they're going all the way and spend a ton of money on R&D for an AMG model that will get very few sales to begin with, they might as well go all the way and give this superior platform to all A and B models...
But then again, maybe the RWD version will seriously suffer in interior space, so a normal FWD platform is needed for the buyers who want the space (like, 99% of all potential buyers)

I'm with you on this and I'd call this BS as well because it would cost WAY too much money. UNLESS...MB are making a modular chassis design like BMW is doing so they can make their cars FWD, RWD or AWD without extra engineering effort and money wasted.
:t-hands:

Wait a minute, BMW is making a modular chassis where " FWD, RWD or AWD" can be done at will? When did this happen?

I'm not sure exactly which thread it was in. But Scott talked about this. I'm sure one of the more Hardcore BMW guys on here can find it, or Scott might even chime in.

I remember reading something along those lines as well. If nobody does, Ill look it up tomorrow, but I think it has something to do with their '3rd brand'/Isetta/0er
