Skoda had a little surprise for us this morning us they unleashed the first official pics of their 2008 Fabia hatch prior to its world premiere which will take place at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2007. And yes, it does look awfully similar with Suzuki’s Swift which in its turn borrowed its share of design elements from BMW’s MINI. Despite that little misdemeanour, we’ve got to hand it to the Skoda folks for designing a very nice looking supermini. Larger than the current model (external measurements: 3992 mm x 1642 mm x 1498 mm) the new Fabia boasts a boot capacity of 300 litres, and, when the rear seats are folded down, it increases to 1163 litres. Although there are no interior images to this point, I’d place a bet that the dashboard will come from the Roomster MPV -see pic bellow. A total of seven engines will be available fort he new Fabia – four petrol and three diesel engines. * Petrol Engines / Diesel Engines: * 1.2 HTP/44 kW - 1.4 TDI PD/51 kW * 1.2 12V HTP/51 kW - 1.4 TDI PD/59 kW (also with DPF) * 1.4 16V/63 kW - 1.9 TDI PD/77 kW (also with DPF) * 1.6 16V/77 kW (also with automatic transmission)
I think its lost its desirability in design stakes it looks to much like the current Suzuki Swift IMO. Interiors beautiful though VAG still do the best in interiors Good car overall though looking forward to next Polo with new diesel engines
It looks like th Swift but the Swift doesn't look like Mini at all (IMO). Anyway i don't like it.:eusa_doh:
I think European readers may agree with me that Fabia should have been exactly like the Joyster concept which was more to my liking. More on Skoda's Joyster concept http://www.germancarforum.com/showthread.php?t=6763
Re: 2008 Skoda Fabia – Official Now I'm wondering to myself why we got a Jazz when we could have gotten a Polo in the first place! I'm really looking forward to the next Polo - when will it come?
2008 I'm looking forward to the next Gol family (Sth America) which will be based on old Skoda Fabia platform its due around the same time 2008.
Nice, but i like Suzuki Swift way better. My SIL just bought one, 1.4 Petrol. I've tried the car and i can tell you it's very fun to drive. Wild little thing... :t-cheers:
Here's one Skoda Fabia you won’t see in your local supermarket car park. This seriously muscled machine is a one-off built for appropriately named Czech automotive component manufacturer Brisk, and it packs 494bhp. The Brisk RS01 WRC, to give it its full title, is based on the first-generation Fabia, but as you will have noticed, little of the original car remains. The hatchback body has been turned into a coupe, and the engine is anything but standard. Amazingly, the motor is based on the VW Group 2.0 TFSI, as used in the Octavia vRS, but with the wick turned up beyond 11. That means you get 494bhp at 7800rpm and 443lb ft at 3700rpm. With a kerbweight of 1000kg, performance isn't just brisk, it's super-brisk, with 0-62mph taking 2.7sec. The RS01 borrows some of its parts from the Skoda Fabia WRC rally car, including the Prodrive-developed six-speed sequential gearbox. Brisk says that it will be running the car in some rallies, mainly as a promotional tool. It certainly caught our attention. Autocar - A really very Brisk Fabia
That's the old model. The vRS (or RS as it was known on most markets) only came as a diesel. With the new Octavia, there's both petrol and Diesel versions, don't know yet if that'll be the case with the new Fabia.
The really like the design of the new car, saw one from a distance in the showroom, and it looked sweat! From a design point of view, this would probably be my favourite car in it's class at the moment, all they need to do now is put the 170bhp diesel in it!
