It is not only the thread that has been cleaned.

Viewing the now very thinly disguised W222, I would venture to say that M-B has done a rather fine job. The flank sculpturing is no more offending than that seen on the Bentley Continental GT/Flying Spur or the BMW F12/13 6 series + 6 series Gran Coupe. The proportions are very befitting for a car in this segment of the market. Perhaps M-Bs' most cohesively styled sedan in quite a while. And evidence that M-B is beginning to "right" some previous flaws.

It would be an interesting exercise applying the W222s' flank sculpturing theme to a facelifted CLS. It may just possibly transform the current CLS' aesthetic from "dodgey" to "sublime". After all-in terms of proportions and general architecture, the current CLS is quite stellar.

After looking at the latest pictures and comparing them to earlier pictures posted way back in May, it is amazing to me how close the renderings were. Based on this we probably have a pretty good idea of what the front and rear will look like.

Why was it stated much earlier that Robert Lesnik was responsible for the exterior design of the W222? Where is proof of that in the first place, when the R172 designer Fan Zhang was seen directing a sculptor, alongside chief designer Gorden Wagener in this winter/spring 2009 photograph leaked on April 27, 2009? I showed this photograph earlier and remember being told that Zhang wasn't responsible, but that it was Lesnik instead. If Lesnik did the W222, then why would Fan Zhang be in his position directing a sculptor on a near-final design scale model such as the one below? (I'll include two more photos in case anyone forgets or doesn't believe that the 1st photo is the W222)

Currently a significant number of people are discontent with his work on the W212.5, so why does it appear that the "same team" did an excellent job with the S-Class and then did differently with the W212.5? I don't see how Robert Lesnik, who barely came to MB in 2009 would be working on the most important design project midway through it. I also don't believe that MB only dedicates 1 year to design(someone claimed that the W222 design project started in 2009), so they would need much more time and wouldn't pick a newcomer out of the blue for the flagship model.

if the entire front end of the E class looks stunning with the single headlight unit and that big bulging grille, i can only imagine how this will look, i guess only time will tell

It really does look like a W221 at a glance.
I don't know how people can look at the profile of this car and believe that a dropping line would add to its final appearance. I wonder how it will look on the extra long wheelbase.

At first glance I thought it was a W204 Luxury, then a W212 in chamo... then a W221.... then I realized what thread I was on. :D

Well at least we know they've pretty much NAILED the proportions. Now it's all down to the execution of details.

^ The proportions are ok, but there is absolutely nothing outstanding here imo. Looks much like the W221 (not that there is anything wrong with the proportions of the W221).

It has been stated that this is more of an evolutionary change from W221 to W222. However when compared side by side you can see the differences. When completely uncovered the differences will likely be more obvious. Trunk is noticeably different and the unsightly fender bulges are gone. The side lines are also different, but just being a consumer and not a PROFESSIONAL auto designer I can not say these lines are a negative. I think those fenders are much more of a negative on the W221 than the line or lines on the W222. Just me opinion.

I'm curious regarding the W222s' exterior dimensions. I've always found the W221 relatively narrow and tall. I would hope for a somewhat lower and wider successor. It would accentuate the cars' stance immensely. Repeating myself, I very much like what I see so far.

The pics seem to have been taken in Brooklyn. I believe I saw two w222s the other night in NJ. They looked slightly more compact, yet more stately in presence than the W221 from what I saw.

My local dealer informed me that they currently recieving training in preparation for the launch, however, they are not saying when it be lauched in the in the U.S.

you probaby did see two W222s because they have their USA HQ and testing facility in Montvale if you were near there, but if its in the US testing then that means its almost done testing and we should see it soon

would be nice if you guys could some interior shots including rear seating area, console, etc.

BTW whatever happened to the guy that popped up on here maybe a month ago claiming he went to a meeting and saw the finished product?
