Hope you don't have to wave your hands around in the car like that.... would would the other cars on the road think ?

There had been rumors that the S-Class will get a headup display, but i have never seen a BMW-like cutout on the dash on the spypics

My favorite part of all iterior is a steering wheel, it gives a car that unik look and feel that you have something different. Interior disign is amazing it gives car that expansivee retro Bentley, Rolls Royce kind of look but at same time looks Hi-tech. Bentley and Rolls Royce interiors doesn't need to be beautiful but their beauty is expansive look.. Beautiful job Mercedes!

And does somebody know what's the size of this W222?

It's interesting that W140 is the biggest S class ever (and its boxy design makes it even bigger, visually)

Excellent write-up and explaining my concerns from the first photo's of the dash exactly!(y)

What does the dash of the new S-class reminds me of without thinking twice!?

Here! BACK TO THE FUTURE(n)

Are K-A, Human and me too old? Or old enough to know what Mercedes used to be?
I completely hate digital instruments, the idea is you're driving (or been driven) in a Mercedes-Benz SONDERKLASS not a damm Ipad. Put the finest instruments available, even made by watchmakers if possible, ala Pagani.

Put all the digital stuff in the CLS to impress the "look, I'm cool" folks, but make the S class a proper alternative to Bentley an Rolls.

Regards!

It is a question of how the digital display is designed and how all is executed. In the LFA for example or the MP4-12C the digital dispalys (partial for the Macca) are very good, becasue they are funtional, and you don't think "its digital". In the Avetnador on the otehr hand it looks cheap and toy-ish. If Mercedes does it well, it can be ok.

Haha. Also, I think it's a big letdown when the S's interior identity usually mirrors whatever's hot out lately. Back in the day M-B did their own thing. The W222's interior is nice, and IS appropriately M-B to some extents.... in the sense that it adds M-B touches to what is a blatant ripoff of BMW's E65 design. Now, the W222 still carries over that "Mercedes underlying DNA" that you have to squint to notice, but is putting it in a clearly RR/Bentley inspired interior.

Don't get me wrong, the interior will no matter what be a SUBLIME place to be in, but still, the points the point....

I still remember how just about every car manufacturer used to copy W126's interior. (IMHO best interior design ever and what a revolution!)
So sad to see Mercedes following other's designs these days :(

They still do, judging by recent patent activity. But this doesn't preclude to adapt some non-Daimler ideas from time to time, if useful, since Daimler also strives to become a leaner organisation. ;)

PS. MB showed their first color screen in a speedo as far back as Geneva 1995, if I recall correctly. It also had a rotary turn click controller knob on the center armrest. Let me pull up a link: http://media.daimler.com/dcmedia/0-921-657491-1-812978-1-0-0-0-0-0-11702-614318-0-1-0-0-0-0-0.html

Bottom question:

how much is the IMPROVEMENT(sorry, not shouting) over 2012 w221 s63 or is it a change that timeline dictated(few changes and same engine)

Those are impressive graphs. Maybe BMW is better at getting info on M-B ideas and then rushing it into development quicker (reliability reports might actually verify that :D), but fact remains that the W221 came after the E65, and its interior (as well as the W212's and other new language M-B's for that matter) was heavily visually inspired by what BMW introduced to the marketplace first.

Either way, those graphs are getting saved by me, and being used next time I get in an argument with a BMW fanboy or anti-MB'er. :D

I don't understand I. The pic posted by djordjec63 showed what looks likes to to be am indash display but the new interior shots show a freestanding display which I prefer most but either/or will do for me

They have to upgrade the "Soft close" option for the new generation.

All BMW line-up features the option with better mechanism.
Audi as well
