C-Class 2011 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Confirmed

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

It’s official. Mercedes-Benz plans to launch a new C-Class Coupe to replace its CLC Sportcoupe model sold overseas and partially fill the gap left by the CLK, which itself has become the new E-Class Coupe. The information was confirmed by Peter Schabert, the chief of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, Germany where the current C-Class is built.
"The decision by the board of management to produce the Coupe version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes’ competence center for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team's capabilities and standards," Schabert revealed in an official statement.
The new 2011 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe is expected to join the rest of the facelifted C-Class range early next year. The car will feature a unique body and styling to set it apart from its Sedan sibling, however, all engines will be shared across the range and there could even be a high-performance AMG version complete with the company’s new twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8.
Sadly, there are no plans for a convertible version. Even the new coupe will have a relatively short four-year product cycle as the next-generation C-Class is slated to enter production in 2014.

This is so needed.. E coupe S coupe and a C coupe.. finally we might get an AMG version of a MB coupe that is in price and performance close to the M3.. something the CLK never managed to do..

Remember all the fuss over the E-Class Coupe? How it was really a C-Class-based car that had been pushed upmarket? Well, there was a reason for all the subterfuge: Mercedes-Benz plans to offer a C-Class Coupe as well. And yes, it's based off the same hardware. The 108.7-inch wheelbase is identical to that of the C-Class sedan and E-Class Coupe. The engineering hardware isn't dramatically different, either. Talk about splitting a niche.

The new C-Class Coupe, due in March 2011, is a much sharper piece than the larger, more expensive, overstyled E-Class Coupe, and it targets a more dynamic clientele. The front and rear ends will be adopted from the facelifted C-Class sedan due early next year. This explains the more sculptured hood, the restyled lights, and the enlarged nasal air intakes. The upward kink at the trailing edge of the rear window looks suspiciously like a BMW design cue, and the wedge-shaped body and the sleek greenhouse convey Audi overtones. Most coupes suffer from certain packaging constraints, but the trunk of the new two-door C-Class holds the same 16.8 cubic feet as the four-door model.

The revised interior happens to be almost identical in to that of the E coupé. Major improvements over today's C-Class are the repositioned and enlarged nav monitor, the easier to use Comand system, and a host of extra-cost driver assistance systems such as lane guidance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, traffic sign recognition, night vision, an automatic parking aid, cornering lights, and cruise control with brake actuation. The seats will be adopted from the E-Class, which means that you can specify the full works including active side bolsters and massage function.

In terms of surface materials and build quality, the C-Class Coupé is said to take a giant step back towards traditional Mercedes brand values. This will also be reflected in the price tag, which is likely to exceed that of the sedan, placing the C coupe between the C sedan and the E coupe in the U.S. lineup.

The European range comprises five models, sources say: 180 CGI (1.8-liter I-4,156 hp); 250 CGI (1.8-liter I-4, 204 hp); 350 CGI (3.5-liter V-6, 306 hp); 220 CDI (2.2-liter turbodiesel, 170 hp); 250 CDI (2.2-liter turbodiesel, 204 hp). The new V-6 is a turbocharged, direct-injection unit, closely related to the 422-hp V-8 that was earmarked for the C55 AMG. However, due to a disappointing sales forecast and relatively high conversion costs, this version is currently on ice, along with the proposed C-class cabriolet, which has been held back to protect the barely roomier but notably more profitable E-Class convertible.

To accommodate the optional hybrid module, the antiquated five-speed automatic will be replaced by the modern seven-speed 7G-tronic. In addition to a mild hybrid employing a 20-hp electric motor, Mercedes intends to offer a plug-in model that uses a 60-hp motor for extended on-demand, zero-emission operation.

Based on the pricing, one can get a 1-year old used E-coupe for the money. And it will have even still a longer lifespan than this C-coupe. Merc should have launched this before the E-coupe, IMO.

All-New Mercedes C-Class Coupe Confirmed - Production Begins in Bremen 2011

Mercedes-Benz plans to begin production of a new, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, with sales and assembly scheduled for a 2011 launch. A press release from the automaker marks the first time the car has been confirmed officially.

The coupe will be manufactured in Bremen, Germany, next to the three other C-Class models, including the GLK SUV. All four models will be produced on the same flexible line at the facility, which is also responsible for the E-Class, SL and SLK.

When the C-Class Coupe hits the market, it will serve as a replacement to the CLC, according to a Mercedes press release. It will likely be sold at about the same time as the facelifted C-Class four-door and five-door, and will most definitely not look like the CLC sketches we previously revealed.

"We went back and studied what made our coupes so popular in the past," an unidentified source told Autocar. "If you look at some of the more successful two-door models Mercedes-Benz has produced, you can see a direct relationship between them and their four-door stablemates."

The new coupe is expected to look more like the other C-Class models, and less like the cancelled CLK. The entire C-Class lineup will be due for its fourth generation introduction in 2014, meaning this version of the two-door will only be available for a few years.

Because of this, the automaker is not expected to release a convertible version of this particular two-door. "We did look at an open-top version but in the end the costs were too high given the short model life," the source told Autocar.

Good luck finding one. production numbers on the E-coupe are very low. The C-coupe will likely be a much larger volume car.

And people wonder why I hate Lexus fanboys and their bullsh_t.

MB's philosophy on coupes is just to remove the two extra doors, smoothen out the roof line, and call it a day.

I don't understand why they feel their coupes have to be derived from their pre-existing sedans.

BMW, Audi, Infiniti and Lexus need to show them a few things about coupes.

Unless you are getting in to supercar territory, MB is just so bland when it comes to coupes.

Yeah, Lexus designs really beautiful coupes. Sure. Moronic a__hole. :t-crazy2:

How many CLASSIC COUPES and CURRENT COUPES does Mercedes have that this poser brand called Lexus can only dream about? :D

^Yeah, had a bad day. Some Prius driver cut me off today on the Autobahn as I returned from Aying. The woman behind the wheel was hogging the left lane in her overrated green-car and took forever to overtake a column of slower cars. Obviously she could have gone faster but she sure took her time overtaking those cars. When she finally pulled in, the Autobahn was then restricted to 120 km/h...^ :t-banghea

Well if it makes you feel any better, the only Prius I ever saw in BW was broken down on the B27 between Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart.

the current c class is already over 4-5 years old, is there a facelift coming next year or a complete new model change? i thought it was 2nd to 3rd year f/l then 4th to 5th year model replacement. so the current C class shape is going to be around 4 more years ? thats a total of 8-9years current gen C class.. the car will be a dinosaur by then...

This C Coupe will have a lifespan of at least 4 years. It will out-live its sedan and wagon siblings. When Mercedes executives talk about extending the lifespan of its cars, they are really talking about facelifts and newer niche-models such as the C Coupe to extend the lifespan of the C platform.

The next C may arrive at around the second half of 2013 at the latest given BMW's plan to push the next 3 series forward to 2012. The respective release of the 3 series and the C Class is never more than 12 months apart.

The C Coupe will probably live to 2014, which is not a long time.

So basically it's an CLC witha slightly altered rear-end. Now it looks like a two door sedan/coupe, but disspointingly it doesn't look as manly as the prime rival, the 1-Series Coupe.

Looks quite nice. To angular at the rear - but well it's a C-Coupé and not a CLK at all. Will be the perfect Coupé without a B-Pillar. But the camoed vehicle looks like it is without one…

It´s alive!!!

It´s gonna be exactly as the AB render suggested.

The first spyshots! The car looks really nice, but I have some small doubts. First of all, I'm a bit dissapointed that the C-Coupe will have a B-pillar. Second, although it is a small detail, I'm hoping for no kink at the rear window. I'm hoping that MB won't do this, but the camo on the rear window and Autobild's rendering makes me a bit nervous...
