C-Class 2007 MB C-Class... Con't Thread 2

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

Looking like a formidable competitor to the E90.... don't know that it will beat one round the Nubrigring though :D

This latest round of pics really shows how the car will look to me. It looks much larger than before, but all new cars now are swollen with slab sides it seems to meet various regulations in Europe and the U.S. The rear end looks just like the new CL while the profile looks like (again) a shrunken S-Class.

It's still a tad bit to camo'd for me to judge in all truth and honesty. In time as the camo comes off we'll indeed know just how good or bad this car will look. So far it's looking kinda chubby...

Yeah it does look like it has some girth to it, but all cars are doing this now to meet regulations for different countries around the world it seems. This tall and slab sided design is killing the beauty in some cases, but how else do you pass side regulations.

I think these new pedestrian safety standards being pushed upon makes selling cars in Euro. by the ENCAP are making very interesting impacts on design. Some makes I expect to see more active safety advances, such as the spring loaded- upon impact hood- Jaguar utilizes for the new XK. Otherwise you have MB making what appears to be inspired by a baby's forhread, hoods. I mean, I have no idea what the ENCAP will do if god forbid, some broken hearted drunk leaps out a window and lands dead on the hood of a new S class... then it must be MB engineers fault for him having died, because the hood wasn't thick enough to buffer the impact... give me a break. Cars will be cars, drunks will be drunks, no matter what you do, you can never close that window for margin for error. Things happen, a part of life we as humans still don't seem to respect nor except. especiall the ENCAP. Whatever the case, I dont' expect to see anything radical, you'd be suprised what tricks designers use to mask such regulations imposed on cars.

Oh I agree and understand totally. I don't think these regulations make a real difference anyway, well at least in the case someone is hit by a S-Class or XK doing 40-50 mph, you're just about dead no matter how soft they make the front end. Maybe not, but I doubt it will make a difference, getting hit by a car is going to hurt no matter what. What I don't understand is why doesn't the European community try to seperate cars and pedestrians in the places where so many accidents happen?

Good question! If you can formulate an acute question(Sorry, too brain dead to indulge in tedious thought) I'll happily shoot it over to the ENCAP to wait for an answer then post it here(since I actually care to do so).

Well I guess I have several. What is the main reason for these new pedestrian regulations? Where are the problem spots in Europe where cars and humans are meeting each other in the wrong way? Why not just fix/redesign the road/sidewalks etc. etc. so that people and cars don't share the same space?

I'll send that out tomorrow to the ENCAP, you have my word.

To carry on discussion on the W204, a new pic to me:

The last SLK's (R170) rear lights design featured on mercsedes cars that followed after it. The C, E, S, CL all had the same rear lights as the SLK.

Its the same this time round too. If you look at he new SLK (R171) the rear lights design is on the ML, S, CLK, E F/L and now the new C class looks like it will look like that too.

Just thought id share something I noticed in MB's design strategy from the SLK and onto other models :)

That's true. Good point! :usa7uh:

In reading all these reports about how high BMW and Audi sales jumped in Jan 2006 this new C can't come soon enough!!!

Thats what I was thinking about too. If things get worse will MB bring the C class debut to Paris 06 or will they stick to Geneva 07??

Mercedes are in DESPERATE need of the new C and facelifted E. That Audi managed to so clearly outsell MB in the first month of 06 despite a much smaller product range says a lot about the dire state the company is in.

But not only do they need the new C ASAP, it better be damned good at that!
