Porsche just unveiled improved versions of its Boxster and Cayman at the 2008 LA Auto Show last November, but they're already hard at work on the next all-new Boxster that's still a few years out. Destined for a debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the next Boxster will reportedly feature all-new sheetmetal with sources saying not a single body panel will remain untouched. The spy shots in our gallery below show an early development mule already wearing cladding to hide some of the new design elements. Porsche is also delving beneath the skin to improve the car's mechanicals, and weight saving measures are reportedly at the top of list. If Porsche can decrease the Boxster's curb weight enough, it will likely use a smaller turbocharged four-cylinder (probably with direct injection) to power the car.

re: Spy Shots: Next-gen 2011 Porsche Boxster caught testing

A few months ago a dude from Porsche R&D said that the new 911 would do without side mirrors, and I guess that applies to the Boxster as well. The camera substituting the side mirrors can be clearly seen in the photo below:

The next gen Boxster will be on my shortlist for when I get back into a decent car in 1-2yrs, so I look forward to more shots :t-cheers:

So this will be a Boxster with the Golf GTi's 2.0-litre-TFSI? :)
But will it be more powerful as the 255-hp-Boxster?

I wonder when Porsche is going to totally re-design the Boxster? Seems they're just doing extreme facelifts? I guess it was re-designed from the ground up for 2005.

So this will be a Boxster with the Golf GTi's 2.0-litre-TFSI? :)
But will it be more powerful as the 255-hp-Boxster?

There are many types of 2.0TFSI but these types mainly divide into two. The ones which have a BorgWarner K03 turbocharger and the ones which have a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger.

Unfortunately the 2.0TFSI engine in the Golf GTI has a BorgWarner K03 turbocharger (Golf GTI Edition 30 developing 230hp has a K04). 2.0TFSI engines that are more powerful than 230bhp have a BorgWarner K04 turbocharger.

The most powerful of them all is the 2.0TFSI engine found in the SEAT Leon Copa Edition developing 282bhp.

One can't help but wondering what engine will be used...

The entry model engine when the boxster came out in 1997 was a 2.5Lt. 201bhp. This increased to a 2.7Lt. 228bhp in 2002.

It is for sure that they are not going to drop the power. Thus, they can only use the 2.0TFSI engines having a BorgWarner K04 Turbocharger. The highest posibilities are the 237bhp and 252bhp 2.0TFSI engines found in the Seat Leon Cupra and the Audi S3.

If the boxter weighs around 1400kg, and uses the k04 2.0TFSI it will be a real weapon of a car. A few mods and it will destroy a 911 carrera S

When is this car due out?
