At the heart of the 2006 RS3 will be a modified version of the current A3 range topper's 3.2-litre V6 engine. This unit will be turbocharged and will also feature FSI direct-injection technology and torque will be about 450Nm.

The RS3 will get a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifts and will also have electrically assisted power steering. It will also feature upgraded brakes similar to that of the RS4.

Of course Audi's famous quattro four-wheel drive system will also be standard on the RS3.

The car's exterior will reflect its sporty nature. Like the new A6 and A8 W12 the RS3 will get the new Audi single frame grille which will dominate the nose design. A deep spoiler with large air intakes will finish of the muscular front-end.

Other sporty touches include wide side sills, heavily flared wheelarches and a tailgate spoiler.

Audi will also launch the RS3 in Sportback guise.

Its a little bit old this article, but you have any more info post it please

Early next year Audi will introduce an S3 model which will rival cars such as the Alfa 147 GTA. It will get a naturally aspirated version of the 3.2-litre V6 engine with a power output of about 210kW.

we are in 2007 now and there is already a S3 so that tells us that everything written above is out of date and not accurate!

I don't think so, an RS3 will be to expensive for it's territory of hot hatches.
But you never know what the future will bring.

Where others are trying to climb up the premium ladder, Audi is moving downscale and presenting potential customers with performance options at the foot of the hill. Globally more and more people are buying down as a reaction to the recession. Therefore smaller cars with good performance are now quite desirable. A case in point will be this Audi RS3 mule which has been spied testing at the Nurburgring for the first time. The quick Sportback has different air intakes and a new engine.

I'm unsure about this. Why would Audi introduce an RS3 now. The life cycle of the A3 car has been stretched as it is and will be replaced late next year with a brand new A3 with additional body styles. The car will grow slightly in size also. The A3 Cab has a 4 year life cycle so why introduce an RS3 for the 3 body styles with so little time to capatalise from it.

Who knows it might be a response as suggested to new market conditions, spreading the cost of developing the TT-RS engine and also making a new customer base for future proper (not an after thought) RS3

Somehow a hatchback RS-model doesn't feel right. The A3 should have a coupe version which the RS3 would then be based on.

PS. Same case with the 1er, I can't see a 3/5-door M-version but the coupe would be fit for an M-version.

meh, the problem with BMW is that they will keep giving us half arsed excuses for not making the M1 because it clashes with the nomenclature of the M1 supercar..........but as soon as it seems to be a profitable idea, we'll see one in a flash.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
