M3/M4 BMW M3 Launch in Sydney (Photos Included)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

For some mysterious reason, I was invited to the Sydney M3 launch. I wasn't a BMW customer, and I certainly have no money. It was a very enjoyable day. There was a roof top gathering of all M3 owners, as well as some wheel spinning and oversteering action on the roof top car park. Of course it is all done by the head of the BMW advance drivers training instructor. After the little demonstration, he showed us a few driving techniques that I haven't realised before, and I found it very useful.

There were 2 M3 on display, one is in Silverston silver with black interior and the other is in Metallic black with red leather interior trim.

I will upload more photos when I get a chance to organise them. There is a nice Interalgos Blue E46 which won the people's choice award, and a black E30 Evo which looks really really cool.

Re: BMW M3 Launch in Sydney

Can the forum moderator add "Photo Included" in the thread title ? Thanks.

I was talking to the sales people about the car, and they say they have 2 cars allocated within the next 5 months, and the waiting list for the yet to be released semi auto version has already received more orders than the manuel version. One of the guys told me a customer had placed an order for the new M3 a full two years ahead of the offical launch.

This Silverston coloured one has the sunroof instead of having the carbon fibre roof. The salesman agreed with me, without the carbon fibre roof, ths isn't the ultimate version of the M3. This M3 looks really good. Any doubts I have about the styling is gone after seeing the car and sitting inside the car.

The black M3 is a demonstrator so the doors are unlocked for people to sit inside. I have only seen black on black interior in all the press release and magazine photos, so it was nice to see a bright red interior. It does lighten up the interior ambience and the red colour combines well with the carbon fibre effect leather trim to create a driving environment suitable for a car like the M3. The big bucket seat supports your body at all the right places without feeling uncomfortable. You sit just low enough in the car, and the driving position is pretty much perfect. Everything is within easy reach. I noticed the i-drive button is different from the normal 3 series. The solid machined metal i-drive rotary nob is bigger, and it feels cold to touch and more solid when you rotate it. I think the i-drive button regular 3 coupe is just silver painted plastic. It certainly didn't feel as nice to use as the one in the M3.
The only minor negative thing I can say is that the steering wheel is a bit to thick for my liking.

I spoke to one E46 owner and he doesn't fancy the interior of the new M3. He hates the top half of the dash design and he dislikes how the dashboard isn't driver orientated anymore.

I cannot get a got shot of the interior because people are constantly moving in and out of the car.

Just....wow :icondrool

Fantastic shots man. Thanks so much for taking the time to upload and post them!
I've seen one M3 so far; my dealership has one in white, with all black interior and 18" wheels....They have the car locked and behind a fence so it's impossible to give it a proper inspection like have have done.

Thanks man :usa7uh: I guess I am lucky to be invited to the party because I am not a BMW customer at all. After seeing the M3 in white from the motor show, and M3s in silverston and black from the party, my choice will be black. If i have the money I will buy that black one on display. Perfect colour, perfect interior combination.

I got some of the photos in 1600x1200, if you want I can send them out. I have more photos coming up, a few shots of the E46 M3 that won the people's choice award and the cool E30 Evo.

The red interior combo definitely helps M3's interior. This one looks million times better than the one from press shots which looks very boring for M car.

Now, instead of leather upholstery, please put brushed alu instead and you have perfect combo M3 - Black exterior with red interior.:usa7uh:

:t-cheers:

This car won the people's choice award at the party. The owner said the car is 2 years old and he said the car has done some track day work. I asked him how does his M3 compare to something like a 911, he said the M3 is just as sharp and handle just as well as the 911, only the GT3 and the RS versions are better. I asked if he will trade in his car for the new M3, he said he likes his current car now, but he isn't really sure. I can see why, his M3 is in perfect condition and it still looks fantastic. Even after seeing the E92, the E46 doesn't look dated at all.

His Interlagos Blue M3, just look at those rims, they are in perfect condition.

The rims are like a perfect mirror. I have no idea how he can keep the wheels in this condition. I have never seen wheels in this condition before. You can even see the reflection of the sky on it.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
