It's a nice car for those that enjoy such details in the design, both inside and out. Also, since the V40 is heavily based on the Focus it has inherited the latter's steering, which is not a bad thing, even though Volvo did their magic and removed some of the feeling from Ford's steering system. Also, the graphics behind the steering wheel are very funky for those that dig such gizmos, but will be hated by those who prefer a good old fashioned analog rev and speedometer, with orange lighting.

The V40 is not a bad car. It's heavily based on the Focus, but it's still different enough. The extra money over its close cousin is worth it!

Me too. There's something quite appealing about this hatch / wagon crossover. Now, the big technical question: is this a wagonatch or a hatchagon?

I'd say it's a hatchwagon. In a wagonhatch, the distance between the C and the D Pillar would be much bigger, and it would make a difference in the chassis' structural rigidity.

I don't know though, how much it does make sense from a mech engineer's perspective, but as a structural engineer, I have a different POV

I really really like this car, I had a drive in a D3 last week, I'm considering trading my Countryman in on a D3 R-Design in Rebel Blus, it's a great looking car, probably the best looking hatch on the market today.

The looks are very good. It looks more upscale than the Focus and the interior is very fresh. I'm not into all those digital gismos (instead of good old analog rev counter/speedometer), but truth to be told, it's a very fresh design!
