^The full-width panel around the upper screen will always be piano black. Only the part on the tunnel may vary ...

"Beamtem Mercedes": well don't forget that Audi was once owned by Daimler-Benz until it was sold to VW in the 1960s.

Before Daimler-Benz owned it, Auto Union (which eventually became AUDI) did produce some prestigious vehicles as well as racing cars. Horch was one of the marques that formed Audi. August Horch had actually worked for Daimler around 1900 (before Mercedes-Benz even existed).

I recall that the liaison was rather brief (1962-->1966). Not unfruitful, however. Former Daimler-Benz engineer Dr. Ludwig Kraus, was appointed as technical director of the (then)DKW subsidiary. Under his stewardship, DKW jettisoned its' 2-stroke engines in favor of a newly constructed 1.3L il 4 cylinder and rebadged the last DKW sedan, the F102, as the "Audi". The car was originally offered as the Audi 72 (referring to the PS output) and was later complemented with Audi 90 and Audi 60 versions. It can be said that the "Kraus-Motor" was the granddaddy of the modern VAG-Group il 4 cylinders.

I don't understand how is possible to "f$%k up" the design of a flagship car :banghead: but maybe in reality the grill is not that offensive...

It's a shame because Audi are great cars, mind the the bland design, my D4 is rock solid after 5 years, it drives flawlessly and interior fit and finish is on par or even better than S Class.

The new tech on D5 should offer an incredible driving experience at least.

Do you really think they messed it up?

I think it will just take time for some people to get used to it. Remember, a lot of people hated the (2007 D3 A8 facelift) large single frame grille at first.

The night shots of the interior look good, I like the outside. Just detest the piano finish in such large areas.

Hmm. An A9 Coupe to look like an enlarged A5?

A9 coupe will probably look more like a mix of the new A8, A7 and the Prologue concept.

I am not loving the rear (the light across the back looks like something from a Lincoln....yuck) and the front grill is just terrible. The renderings of a black optic look better, but I am disappointed in the exterior design overall.

^ Uuuh, I love how psyched he is about the car.

Bit late to the party and so many has been said already. I'll keep it brieve. Exterior as expected, no surprises. The rearside looks somehow awkward, can't put my finger on it yet. Interior, despite it's avant-garde looks, is for me a dealbreaker: those fingerprint-collector-screens are totally unacceptable.
