I would be interested to know which model car was the best selling in Europe as well as world wide.

14 out of 28 are from the Volkswagen Group.

I would be interested to know which model car was the best selling in Europe as well as world wide.

I'd guess the Golf. I know it has been before, and since Germany is the largest car market in Europe, and the Golf is most popular there it would make sense.

From the EU Vehicle Market Report 2015/2016;

Registrations in the EU are dominated by the larger Member States; the three largest alone (Germany, France, United Kingdom) account for nearly 60 % of the total. Germany is the largest market, with a 24 % share of the overall European market. Registrations in Germany dropped in 2006–2008, then rose in 2009 thanks to a government scrappage scheme, and from that point on remained stable at around 3 million vehicles per year.

By contrast, in Spain, Europe’s fifth largest vehicle market, only 0.8 million new cars were registered in 2014, about half the peak before the economic crisis. However, compared to the low point in 2012, vehicle registrations in Spain have increased by 20 %.

The European market is very diverse, with the most-registered brand, VW, commanding only 12 % of the market, and no other brand managing more than 10 %. The “other” category, containing all brands outside the top ten, is remarkably large – more than 35 % of all registrations.

The Golf has been the best seller for many many year in Europe,world wide I believe it's the Toyota Corolla.

In fact, the Corolla is the best sold model/car/type/whatever you want to call it in the history of cars.

And I think (not sure) the Golf is second. But it will be first in a couple of years, because nobody in Europe buys a Corolla anymore. I am not even sure the car still exists over here, it's all Auris and Prius now.
