I can live with the design.

I can too, 'cause it's copy of a 7er...
j/k...

I can live with the design.

What you're saying though is true for all 3 German luxury brands though. Same controls for those types of things from the top to the bottom in most cases. Mercedes can't be singled out for that. Even still the S/CL doesn't share anything like that with the lesser so it really isn't true across the board. Either way Mercedes is no more guilty of this than BMW or Audi, or Porsche for that matter. I'm talking more about the design of the whole interior. There is more of a difference between varying MB models than there is BMW or Audi to my eye.
M
Nothing against other models, but i hate, HATE the fact that S's and CL's interiors are identical! They can be built on the same platform, but come on... There should be difference between those two, but i'm sorry, i don't see any of it.

I agree- BMW interiors from the 90s like the E46 interior for example were the best in my opinion. You felt as if you were sitting in a plane cockipit, with the dash curving towards you. Nowadays in BMW interiors you get dashboards that are almost completely vertical with a silly wedge shape cut out at the bottom (see pic) -there are no nice flowing curves. Yeh they BMW interiors are smart enough, but I miss the old interiors. I've noticed that the others have this vertical dash design now as well- most notably in the new C-class. Before Mercedes had a nice swooping design, but it seems like they are following the vertical design! So for me, I think it would have to be Audi.
The difference between the S and the CL is noticable,
but look at BMW their 3 series sedan and coupe interior is exactly the same. the 3 series coupe dashboard design is very ugly, and it doesn't suit the sporting nature of the car.

Agreed (only not that it's ugly)! The only difference between MB's sedan and coupe (S & CL) and 3er (coupe and sedan) is that CL is way more exclusive than 3er coupe is from sedan, so that's why i think it should be different. And i'm sure there are others that'll agree. Heck, 335i is 335i by sedan and coupe, and by MB it's S600 and CL600 for example, the name is different too.
Just my opinion.

I agree with you

i think MB realise this problem with the S and the CL, that is why their Ocean Drive concept has more different dashboard design than the S , even though the layout is pretty much the same. Maybe the facelift S will incoperate these styling changes

Funny man.BMW just dropped the "Ci" designation a with this generation of 3 Coupe.
The CL and 3-Coupe are just coupe versions of their respective sedans regardless of how they label them.
Seriously though, there is hardly a "problem" with the CL and S-Class interior looking alike.

Fit and finish: im not sure its a draw between MB and audi..as my experiences with audi interiors have been far from what is told here..
for example a driver seat in a new RS4 that squeeks so much you have to turn up the stereo loud to drown it..
and for MB they have had some serious probs lately..but these new cars..especially the S class..are freakin amazing..like a vault.. go and try if you dont belive it
Design: Here MB winns it for me.. i hate BMW interior design..with its sharp edges..and failed attempts to try to be hyper modern..
they should take their design back to Z8 interior time.. hoping for new cool direction with the new 7er..
Audi on the other hand always look nice..but thats about it.. nothing spectacular.. very strict.. and german.. and i hate the similarites that runs all trough the VAG interior line up..its disturbing..
Ergonomics: BMW sucks arse in this department.. they really need to think this over.. seems like they did with the X5 wich seems to have a hot interior.. Audi cars have good ergonomics.. nothing is placed in a wierd place.. everything is easy to reach and use..
But MB gives me this feeling..especially the S class..that the car works for you.. everything seems so automatic and naturall..
they are the true masters of ergonomics.. ( on the other hand..it could be the fact that im used to MB)
So MB gets my vote.. surprise surprise..![]()

Do you mean the position of the seat adjustment buttons doesn't make any sense?
The seat adjustment buttons are located on the door-thats what i mean.

Design = Audi. Audi by far has the most attractive interior from a designers point of view. Everything just flows. Audi typically has the advantage mostly because their interiors look attractive online as well as in person too. Audi on the other hand still cant match Mercedes comfort level.
Quality = Mercedes. Even though Audi makes some of the most attractive interiors, Mercedes continues to raise the bar in comfort and quality. The designs however are spiritless. Like most Japanese cars. Some examples would be the new C, M, ML, and outdated E.
Ergonomics = BMW. Everybody is bashing BMW today for their "UGLY" interiors, but its clear that a lot of people haven't sat in a newer BMW. Pictures certainly don't do justice, because in person, BMW interiors just work. The Ultimate Driving Machine deserves the Ultimate Drivers Interior. BMW shouldn't settle for less.

^ Have you ever sat in a BMW?-their seats are probably the best in class.
I figure you don't drive the exterior so I make my decisions accordingly. We use essential cookies to make this site work, and optional cookies to enhance your experience.
