I wasn't or haven't been a Star Wars aficianado, but once you hear the iconic John Williams' score with Millenium Falcon doing what it it does, it's difficult not to get excited.

Just consider the impact of this franchise, which will span 4 decades, on the life of someone like me. My late father took me to see Episode IV when I was six years old in 1978. In 1999 I returned the favour and treated him and my family to the premier of Episode 1. A few years later my father would pass on and I introduced my daughter to Star Wars and she was instantly and immersively hooked. The cycle will repeat itself when I take her to see Episode VII next December. Remarkable.

While I love Star Wars for the sheer entertainment factor, I also come to appreciate how relevant the underlying social messages have been to today's world - be it starting a war under the false pretext or how one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

Have you seen the The Clone Wars series?
Sure some episodes might be aimed at kids but there is some dark stories in the whole six series which expand the "threads" that were left in the original and prequel trilogy.

Then there is the new Star Wars Rebels which follows the events before A New Hope and will reveal some loose ends from The Clone Wars series and tie into Episode VII. Here is a clue that ties into the original and the new sequel trilogy
