Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I think that this car has potential to look very very good: the red lights enlighten it, the revealed characterline will make reflections we don't see, and the black tape is destroying the flow of the lines...

However, this little "third" side-window is really worrying me: I've always loved MB's Coupes for their gorgeous profile with all windows down... (it's the only thing that "saved" the bulbous W209 for me).

It would be an enormous letdown if this one has a stupid little window left, it would broke the splendid pillarless look.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I though the side look bad as well untill i clreaed it out!!! check this out.......

Still ... The proportions are just weird for this segment. I hope it looks better IRL.

It reminds me of an X6 = featuring heavy ass pushed way up, and the whole rear looks kind a fastback-ish. :eusa_thin

CL has much better resolved proportions.

Btw, will this car have the wheelbase identical to the C-class, or E-class? It looks huge to me ...

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I really think is does look very very good. No way worse than both 3er Coupe and A5. The front we know how is looking like, any problems with it, the rear look good, and the side profile looks promising (without that strange little window).

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Whoa, this came out of nowhere....can't say I'm a fan........I definitely have to adjust to this.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Oh my. It's looking horrendous!

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

On shocking detail: if you look closely at the side windows, you will notice a small camoed part of the rear window... Only one explanation: this is a fixed part!!!: :t-hair:

It could be the first MB Coupe since ages whose side-windows don't fully retract...:t-hair: :t-banghea:t-banghea:

If it turns out that is is really the case, I will officially hate it.

Relax. That's just camo. The side window will open completely. Not having the B-pillar would otherwise be useless.

Looks great:D

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I don't know what everyone else is looking at. I see (so far) the same ill-shaped form of the current car with new front and rear ends. Hardly a competitor to the S5 imo.

No this is worse. The visual mass over the rear wheels is terrible! The wheel looks dwarfed and like its struggling under all that weight.

The S5 is gorgeous. The E-class coupe better be too. Especially since they're going to charge a premium for it.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Side profile is worrying indeed, but the rest is sexy.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I agree that the back in the side preview shots somehow looks a bit heavy. This was the case with the last two gernerations as well.
What I don't understand (still) is what exactly is the thing that makes it look as massive? I can't put my eye on it, but know it somehow looks like there is much more sheetmetal on the side than on the 3er coupé nd A5 for example....can someone explain????

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to judge the car when the masking hasn't come off. This car is fresh and bold, taking a lot of cues from it's older brother the CL. Y'all are crazy, wait for it to be officially unveiled. You'll be putting your foot in your mouth I promise!

I hope so!

They're going to charge a premium..?

Somehow I don't think Mercedes will price themselves out of the market. But then again, some people argue that's exactly what they did with the Maybach and SLR. :t-hands:

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Mercedes had really better be careful with trying to charge a premium over the E-Class sedan with this coupe. Not gonna happen IMO. It will remain priced where the CLK is today, between the C and E, but closer to the E. Over the E and that is CLS territory.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Agreed. I REALLY hope the side windows fully retract!! Otherwise, The car is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor which is one of the best cars I've ever had.

Crazy thought but what if CLK moves up to replace CLS as E class coupe. Making way for a new (unseen) C class coupe. And then CLS is repositioned to to take on upcoming 8er. There's rumours it will be based on the S's platform in future. CRAZY n who knows but dont you just love conspiracy theories ;)

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

That would be interesting and it could happen, but I'd still want the E coupe to actually be based on the E-Class, not the C if they're going to charge CLS prices for it.
