I was looking on up more info on the Pulman version of the s class and I saw this list of the s class fleet it shows an extra ling wheel has due in 2014 after the long wheelbase but before the Pullman. How much room does someone need. But I'm most excited to see the Pullman and coupe versions of the s class

• S-class saloon (W222, 2013)
• S-class long-wheelbase (V222, 2013)
• S-class extra-long wheelbase (X222, 2014)
• 600 Pullman saloon (2015)
• S-class coupé (C217, 2013)
• S-class cabriolet (A217, 2014)
• S-class four-door coupé (C222, 2015, not yet signed off)

AMAZING INTERIOR. Mercedes, bring this back!

I was watching a comparison between the latest CL63 and an old SEC (outfitted with a modern engine). The contrast in interiors was sobering. The CL appeared dour and dark, almost plasticky side by side with the older but much more "aristocratic" and open interior of the old Benz. http://www.carsnewsweek.com/2012-07...mercedes-benz-280se-3-5-vs-2012-cl63-amg.html
I watched the same vid. Totally agreed. The CL's interior seemed lifeless and drab in comparison to the GORGEOUS Classic 280SE's interior.

No need to bring anything back, really. Actually, until relatively recent times, Mercedes never offered very luxurious interiors for their ordinary cars, including the S-Class, this is a rather new trend, for Mercedes at least. That open limo is a very special and rare version, Mercedes 600 Laundalet and was used by people like The Pope, various heads of states and a few very rich people. I also doubt that wood trim is the original one. As for that SEC, it's a refurbished model with modern, expensive materials. The original ones didn't look like that. On the other hand I hope you are aware that that interior of the modern CL is just ONE of many possible choices and one of the most bland looking.

The new cars can look pretty amazing if fitted with the right trims (especially designo elements, but even the standard stuff looks great):

I always trust and loved Mercedes design, but after seeing yesterday 2013 GL350 I got very disappointed with front end, it looks cheap, headlights are to small and grill is to big, it has to many lines, it looks busy and same time like somethink is missing, it looks like just another SUV. I really hope that new S class will not have that "Just another car" look with is Smiley face Grill.

OK, the GL has always been bland. Are you telling me the pre-2013 models didn't look like a big box on wheels? They got lost right next to the sea of Escalades, Audi Q7s, BMW X5's, and whatever else in the private school parking lot. I actually like the design, honestly.

Definitely, in terms of cost. Those old interiors were surely vastly more expensive due to higher quality and more various materials. The attention to details, etc. aren't cheap to produce. The tech thing is why I was saying that if M-B truly brought back a "homage interior idiom", in a truly classically oriented way, WITH all the modern amenities, I guarantee it would fly off the lots and spark something fierce from within the M-B brand. It would be like the interior version of the excitement M-B generated with the SLS, which is a clear nod to M-B's rich past through and through, modernized for livability, etc.

It would also price Mercedes' models more firmly into Bentley Continental territory, where it would lose. The 280SE played in a time where these things were possible- now that Bentley has an entry level model things have changed.

I think if Mercedes recreated the 280SE interior with modern amenities, safety virtues, and comfort, it would absolutely annihilate the current CL's interior and be vastly more popular.

Sometimes you leave too many loose ends in your statements and arguements. If Mercedes redesigned the CL interior
to mimic the 280SE, thay would have to change the body style, wheels exc... (in retro modern language) for a full package match up. This would affect the entire producton car line, meaning a total retro-modern redesign theme for the S, C, and E-Class.
(Most generation Xers or Ys, or those new to the brand, would probably not like this idea because Mercedes aim is generally a progressive evolution in technology and design so to speak.) of course there are exceptions like the SLS, but this is a stand-alone model.

-and where would the baby C-Class fit in this retro fit.... if I`m not mistaken it wasn`t even born. Neither was the M, CLS or GLK and other newer models. I don`t believe it would work at all K-A.

Still screams VAG when your inside. Needless to say, I am definitely not a fan. Far from it in fact :)

Finally something I agree with you on. The Audi's interior is a tacky mess of 6 different materials/colors/combinations and just a hot mess all around. My absolute favorites in this segment are the W221 (Simple, elegant, classy, timeless Benz) and the 7-Series
( Supercomputer Techy look, business-man chic, reeks of Mensa levels of intelligence). Although the 7 and 5 interiors look like mere copies, I find absolutely nothing wrong with this, because they are both finished flawlessly, and keeps in line with BMW traditional interiors (F01 looks like a modern interpretation of the magnificent E38), Plus I am absolutely smitten with those huge nav screens. I have always ranked Benz and especially Bimmer interiors higher than Audi's. idk what the auto publications are drinking.

Both interiors, 5 and 7, look good, a sort of technic-coolness. But I do mind, if they look like copies. If I have to pay € 20k more (German prices) for a 7 series i'd like to see and feel the difference, knowing it was worth it.
By the way, I don't understand the hype about Audi interiors either.

Not on topic, GTA8.5, but that's a very nice avatar you've got (y)

I agre.

I agree if I pay 20k more for a 7 series I want to feel the extra 20k swarming around me. That's why I always admire Mercedes because each of their models has their own unique interior with a few mino similarities

The rear seems a lot less chunky, but it could just be because it's white vs. black and the fact that the W222 is covered. The overall body seems very similar. The W126, w140, and w220 all looked completely different from each other. This might not be the case this time.

So ironic hat it's next to the w221 I wonder how that drIver of the w221 felt. Anyways the w222 looks more wider than the 221 blankly In the back but otherwise they about the same size

Its been 105 degrees here for the last week so maybe hot weather + city testing.

After seeing this pictures it makes me worry if Mercedes is heading in right direction.View attachment 12664View attachment 12665View attachment 12666View attachment 12667 if Mercedes is heading in right direction.

Actually, after 'closely examinating' this.
I found out that Mercedes isn't making a big mistake of some sort.
That big centre console in the 2 other cars and that one blown-up lunchbox are needed for the gear stick.
Since Mercedes is 'hiding' it behind the steering wheel a big centre console isn't really needed.
And the Audi begs the question; Do you really need all those buttons when you have a command/iDrive (or whatever the hell it is called) knob.
It seems a bit duplicated, that iDrive things seems unnecessary with all those buttons located just above it.
Nevertheless the Audi still has a beautiful interior.
