A8/S8 [Spyshots] 2018 Audi A8 Spy Pics & Info

The Audi A8 will be unveiled on July 11th in Barcelona. This was said by Audi CEO Rupert Stadler during the annual press conference yesterday.
Finally....Been expecting a release date from them since early last year...The D4 has gotten so long in the tooth that it feels completely outclassed and outdated compared to its modern rivals from BMW and Merc

Certainly, the W222 and G11/12 trump the D4 in terms of technological wizardry.

And yet, the D4 strikes me as an automobile that has aged gracefully. In fact, I perceive it as a car that continues to look "fresh" and not at all outdated. Arguably timeless in a classic sense of the term. Of course, its' somewhat less than optimal, concept dictated proportions prevent it from being described as "aesthetically immaculate". But there is so much that is simply "so good" about the D4 that praise is warranted. An acquaintance of mine has a post-facelift 2014 MY S8. It impresses me immensely. The mind-boggling performance, the obsessive attention to assembly, material and detail quality...

Now this would be a truly fine example of a new Audi design paradigm.

*Sigh*...

I have little if any doubt that these cars will be very attractive from the base of the A-pillars back. Rakish greenhouse with nicely sloping back-glass, pronounced wheelarches, etc. Very nice.

What remains questionable is how Audis' design team under Marc Lichte has addressed the cars from the base of the A-pillars forward. In "VW-Group corporate-speak", the "prestige clearance". VWs' large Concept C 4 door Coupe presented at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2015 is an example of how things can be executed compellingly utilizing the MLB Evo matrix. Better yet, one needs to look no further than Volvos' S90/V90.

But Volvo is with transverse engine

Xmas tree syndrome.

C'mon, Audi. Light strip all across the trunk is so ... late 1980s, early 1990s ... Alfa Romeo 164, Ford Scorpio Mk2 etc. Tacky. (n)

About the only thing Audi has interesting going on design wise is lighting. So why not make them as big as possible. :ROFLMAO:

But you're right. These could date very quickly.

Unfortunately, all I see is Lincoln's quick rip from the Prologue.

Makes me think concept cars should be less publicized. Let the lazy think for their own.

Full-width, illuminated-strip connected taillamps are being promoted by the Audi design team as a signature element that enhances...well...width. Would it be roguish to suspect that Audi has poached from VW-Group sibling Porsche ? The G-series 911s' introduced the connecting reflector-strip way back in fall 1973.

Actually, large upmarket Chrysler (U.S.) products implemented this theme in the mid-1960s'.

Whatever...I'm liking the rears of these new large Audis'. And the 2nd-gen A7 appears to have jettisoned that "bowel relieving hunch" that could be a bit annoying to the eye from certain angles. Bravo ! I hope that the nice folks at Audi have gotten the stuff from the base of the A-pillars forward right.

Haha,my thoughts were exactly the opposite.

Same here.

Better yet, one needs to look no further than Volvos' S90/V90.

So the A8 will feature engines no bigger than a 4 pot?
Audi will continue to look very FWD. Simply because they are going to put big engines in the front and that requires space.

The BMW E65 didn't come out in 1990.

My reference to Volvos' S90/V90 was based solely on the cars' FWD/AWD configuration and the way in which Volvo designers could effectively veil the often encountered aesthetic shortcomings of such. Of course, the transversal engine positioning makes the task all the easier.

It is quite amazing what a mere centimeter, whether added or reduced, can achieve (refrain from lewd comments, gents LOL !) in terms of improving/detrimenting an automobiles' appearance.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
