Volkswagen T-Cross Getting Its Birthday Suit Ready For Paris Premiere

Volkswagen T-Cross could premiere as soon as the Paris Auto Show this fall. Based on these spy shots of the crossover, we think a launch could indeed be just a few months away.

Snapped testing high in some European mountains, this T-Cross prototype has shed a significant amount of camouflage and bears some similarities to the concept. However, the exterior design appears far more restrained than the show car, making the vehicle look largely like a small version of the Tiguan.

At the front, headlights similar in shape to those from the Tiguan are featured alongside a grille with three horizontal slats. Elsewhere, the short front and rear overhangs are particularly pronounced while black and white camouflage shields important elements on the rear fascia from view.

If you’re confused by Volkswagen’s recent SUV naming scheme, you’re not alone. The German marque unveiled its eye-catching T-Roc crossover towards the end of next year as a larger alternative to the T-Cross.

Another day, another new VW crossover…

It’s unclear what powertrains the T-Cross will be offered with but we wouldn’t be surprised to find some of the T-Roc’s engines feature. For example, these could include a 187 hp 2.0-liter TSI, a 147 hp 2.0-liter TDI, 147 hp 1.5-liter TSI, 113 hp 1.6 TDI, and a 187 hp 2.0 TDI. A dual-clutch transmission and a six-speed manual are both expected to be available. Unfortunately for those few prospective T-Cross owners planning to take the vehicle off-road, they’ll be disappointed to learn that front-wheel drive is set to be the only configuration. Underpinning the T-Cross will be the same MQB platform as the Polo.

In April, Volkswagen revealed that it will build the T-Cross SUV in south Brazil at its Sao Jose dos Pinhais plant.

When it launches, the VW T-Cross will rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008.

Sliding bench that improves capacity to 450L and fold flat front passenger seat makes this a very clever small crossover. It's going to fly off the showroom. Understandably there won't be an AWD option and it's a shame that VW don't even offer it on the T-Roc. That means buyers need to look towards a Golf or Tiguan for AWD.

Needless to say, VAG's crossover and SUV offering is looking mighty! Mercedes and BMW have lots of room to grow their offerings.

The XC40 is two classes above and is a Tiguan rival. Nissan Juke, Fiat Panda, Seat Arons, Renault Captur and Toyota HR are more like-for-like competitors to the T-Roc.

T-Roc and Tiguan are so close together you might as well call them the same class....which is Volvo XC40 class.

And fully specced the T-Roc likely comes out on top over the Volvo, but I am not sure about what the Volvo has on offer. Can't be more than what VW has though.

EDIt; I am not sure what we're discussing anymore, T-Roc or something else? I swear I thought I was in a T-Roc thread, I don't even know what a T-Cross was until I saw my mistake!

T-Roc: Golf based
R-Cross: Polo based

Aaah, fair enough. Discard the above then, I thought I was in a T-Roc thread (which is the best car VW has on offer right now as for as I am concerned).

Edit 2;

just discard everything above I don't know anymore.

To be honest it doesn’t sound like you have driven let alone sat in any of the cars.

The T-Roc interior is at the absolute bottom of the VAG group. It doesn’t any any soft touch material at all. You are just paying for the badge and design. I would absolutley not refer to it as VWs best car on offer.

Both the XC40 and Tiguan are a class above with the Q3, X1, Evoque and E-Pace

To be honest you are absolutely right as there is no universe where I would want one.

Just like the way the T Rock looks, and for the rest it's just the official sites to see what class they belong to; T Roc and XC40 are the same class price wise over here, the Volvo a couple of grand more expensive.

As for the rest T Roc, R-Cross, T-Cross, R-Rock....wtf dude, what do you expect of me? I am close to clueless here.

Better materials doesn't make a car a class above. The E class and 5er are still in the same class after all....LOL

It's not just about the materials. The T-Roc is a jacked up hatchback and they rarely have independent rear suspension unless you buy the top of the line AWD version. The XC40 just like the X1, Q3 etc has independent rear suspension as standard.

I have checked Volvo and VW Netherland and the price difference between the T Roc and XC40 is like it is everywhere else - considerable. The T-Roc starts at €26,650 while the Volvo starts at €39,975 which is a 50% difference on starting price.
