4 Series (F32) [Spy Shots] The BMW 4 series GranCoupe is spied cold-weather-testing in Sweden

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the F32 (coupé version), F33 (convertible version) and F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020
there's someething with the trunk that doesn't look right? maybe trying too hard to differentiate with the 3er.

This are only photoshops but in the past Autobild was often very close to the real deal.

An example how close Autobild with his renders can be:

The link show us an article about the next 7, S and A8.
Picture 5 and 6 shows renders of the new S. Except of details like the foglamps which are not exist on the real model the renders shows the real deal. The article was released Juli 2012, official pics were released in May 2013.

This is a 4 series?...

So its just a tiny bit sexier, less practical and more expensive 3 series which would be extremely difficult to distinguish in real life? Is this car really that necessary? Then again, more choices - better for costumer i guess.

And since Im not a fan of hatchback-like rears, Im not even sure if it will look any better than 3 series.

I just think this car imitates the A5 sportback too much in terms of the general concept of what this should be. Have to say the A5 sportback has a better shape than this. Also why does the side window need to stretch that far back that causes it to require a kink on the doors instead of a straight cut? that has been a BMW thing, a kink (with the shape of the 3rd window like that) is OK for GT or X models but GC? I think this car should be called the 4series ti. The 6er GC is so damn nice why don't they just copy the proportions of their own product, instead of doing a 1 to 1 thing with Audi? And is it just me, but the car's front end design, doesn't seem to suit something longer than a F30/F32, this is like some try hard stretch. It needs bigger kidneys like the 3GT to balance its length.
I don't think a 4er GC is exactly "pointless", it's just that this thing looks to be poorly executed, it's done just for completion and to rip people off.
If i get a 3series GT and lower it, i think it will look better than this, at least the proportions are correct, with a face that matches the car.

There are two things which I hate in AUDI design (that started in the late 70s or early 80s)
1. The long front overhang
2. The third window not incorporated in the rear door.
Now I have to get used to seeing the second one in the BMW line.

I remember when this car was a four door, when it had that wide c-pillar to accommodate the outline of the door opening so that Gran Coupe name could be present.
it must have given in to the demands of the market.
We will see the unveil in February, for Genf.

I get what the Gran Coupe concept is, and I am actually a fan of the concept. That being said, I do not see how this is a Gran Coupe.

Well, they have the Gran Coupe (GC).... they have the Gran Turismo (GT)....and now the Gran Fastback (GF) or Gran Liftback (GL). .... or it could be the Gran Coupe Fastback (GCF)!

So there was a 4er GC whth 4 doors and BMW ditched it in favour of this?

This would be sooo BMW...:banghead::banghead:

I reckon the two really noticeable differences between this and a regular 3 series saloon is the nose a tail where it will mimic a 4 series coupe.

Does BMW really need to add it to the line up? I think yes because Audi's A5 has proved to be very popular if the UK market is typical of else where. The bottom line is everyone would prefer to own a coupe but can't so if there's a more practical option that shares name and more adventurous lines then most will be willing to pay a small premium.

There are more. Just like 4er Coupe the 4er GC is also wider & lower than 3er sedan, featuring frameless doors - that makes it sportier than regular 3er sedan. And the hatch back tail gate on 4er GC also adds some extra practicality & difference when compared to 3er sedan.

Also, don't be bothered with the patent office specific CGIs. They don't show the real image of the car. Check these (old) spy photos & video - and you'll get much better idea how sleek the car really is:
