Boxster/Cayman (987) [Spy Shots] Porsche Cayman GT3 / GT4 in the works

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c). Production: July 2004–2012 (Boxster), August 2005–2012 (Cayman). It was succeeded by the Porsche 981 in 2012.

I thaugt it'd get the S engine, straight off. Good news anyhow, the dealers are ordering their demos.

my prediction....
- 375 to 380 hp....fits between standard 911 and a 911S, and is about 100 bhp less than the GT3
- PDK from the GT3 OR a 6-speed manual to appease the purists
- weight reduction of about 40 lbs
- will definitely rev over 8000

With that output I think its performance will be between the 991S and GT3. If it has semi-slicks then it will be one hell of a 911 killer.

Porsche Cayman GT4 teased in Real Racing 3
Will be unveiled shortly
Porsche and Electronic Arts have quietly released the first teaser image of the Cayman GT4 in Real Racing 3.

The companies were coy on details but hinted players will be able to "participate in the unveiling of a stunning new sports car." The change log also goes on to say a "prestigious manufacturer is about to announce a new vehicle... Be the first to take the wheel."

While Porsche has been tight-lipped about specifics, previous spy photos have shown the model will have an aggressive front bumper, a front lip spoiler and a prominent rear wing. We can also expect lightweight wheels and a high-performance braking system.

The car's engine remains unconfirmed but speculation suggests the Cayman GT4 will use either an upgraded 3.4-liter engine or a detuned version of the 3.8-liter engine that resides in the 911 S.

Unsubstantiated Internet inside information -

"3.8 385hp parts bin motor basically from the Carrera S. I asked power kit 3.8 he said yes. I said why only 385 ad not 430 and he smiled and said diff intake on Cayman. I told him motor shouldn't be 45 hp off for the Cayman intake. to which he replied it isn't, 385 is the marketing number. Manual only. Bespoke suspension. 2850 weight goal. All motorsport derived suspension and brakes. He told me analogue and very very fun. I asked 2-3 high ups and they all confirmed these specs. It is not a bespoke engine but a car which will focus on handling and fun!!"

Wow, the Internet echo chamber is fast, what I posted is being regurgitated in other forums, but the "Unsubstantiated Internet inside information" bit is dropped, and probably now it has it's own life...

So, just to be clear, that bit was private messaged to me. I have no idea who "he" is in that conversation, and the "I" is just an Internet acquaintance. I can't vouch for anything. I just shared it cause it seemed interesting and plausible.

Agree, seems unlikely but it may be a way to keep some of the numbers in check?

I read "manual only" a few places now, but then again might be all from same source. Apparently it will be revealed on Feb 5th, so not too long now.

Porsche Cayman GT4 partially revealed

Should have around 400 bhp
Porsche has indirectly revealed through a video the rear end of the upcoming Cayman GT4.

It was only yesterday when Porsche and Electronic Arts provided a first glimpse of the Cayman GT4 through a teaser image from Real Racing 3 and now a WCF reader has stumbled upon something quite interesting. In a video released today about the restoration process of one of the first 911s ever made (chassis number #7), in the 0:10 – 0:13 interval you will notice a yellow Cayman with a big rear wing, indicating it's the range-topping GT4 variant.

This can only mean the Cayman GT4 is ready for an official reveal which could occur as early as March at the Geneva Motor Show. Porsche's product chief Wolfgang Hatz has already announced the model has been developed by the same team who worked on the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS while recent reports indicate an output of 400 bhp (298 kW) wrapped around in a lighter package compared to the current range-topping version, theCayman GTS. Other upgrades include beefier brakes, stiffer suspension and a slightly more aggressive body.
