Weight reduction, reloaded: I heard about *realistic* 17xx kg (for the 6 cylinder/gas version) today. The 'how' of it is achieved is to be even more impressive. So far, I cannot judge to what extent these 'infos' are marketing ado but it sounds good.
Currently the F01 740i - with 6-cyl petrol engine - weights exactly 1900kg (with standard equipment; by EU standards = incl. driver & some luggage). So the weight reduction is expected to be over 100kg if that 17xxkg figure is also by EU standard (if it's not the EU figure can easily go north of 1800kg).
The next question is whether that figure is "comparable to same equipped F01 model" or to current standard F01 (i.e. with less standard features compared to G11) - since I assume G11 will come with some extra features as standard (compared to F01).
Nevertheless ... more than the net wight reduction itself the weight distribution is even more important. If weight can be lowered on crucial points, then center of gravity can be much lower, 50:50 wight distribution can be easier to achieve etc. And as far rumor has it the much focus is on such "intelligent weight reduction" ... also using CFRP parts etc.
