Lexus has introduced a raft of refinements for its SC430 coupe-cabriolet for 2006.

Key change for Japan’s answer to the Mercedes SL is a new six-speed automatic gearbox, complete with sequential manual override. Shared with the Lexus LS and GS saloons, the new ‘box cuts the 0-62mph dash by 0.2sec to 6.2sec while boosting fuel consumption from 23.5mpg to a claimed 24.8mpg. Carbon dioxide emissions are also improved, dropping from 287g/km to 269g/km.

Other technical changes include adaptive front lights to help drivers see around dark corners and new faster-acting LED taillights.

Accompanying the mechanical revisions are mild styling tweaks, with a restyled grille, bumper, headlamps and indicators to keep the front end fresh. Concluding the makeover is a new set of 18in alloy wheels.

The rest of the 282bhp Lexus remains unchanged – save the price, which goes up by £2000 to £54,690.

This car is hopelessly outdone by the new Jaguar XK, Mercedes SL, and BMW 6-Series Cabrio.

Someone has to be crazy or a Lexus employee to pay over 60k for this car. Seriously i would take a Mercedes SLK or even a A4 cabrio over this anyday.

Its one of those "nice" cars. Nice sound system, nav system, pleasant materials, very luxurious, but it looks, goes and handles like the bathtub it appears to be.

It has never had a prayer in its segment. It doesn't have anything to make it really stand out against Europe's best.

Well, some people don't really care about a car like that not being the sportiest tool in the shed. It appeals to those looking for something refined and, well, nice, and gains marks for having the folding hardtop. That it's a Lexus is also going to be a bonus for others.

Still, to me, it's an expensive orphan car, and importantly IMO it's rather ungainly and awkward looking. So hurry up and make a brand new one already.

I never liked this car. It's shaped like an egg, especially the back. I would take just about any car over this thing.

Do you really think that it is outdone by the new XK? I haven't seen this car IRL, or heard/read anything about that, but i really hope it is good..

Yep, I agree. Nothing special about this car at all. Even though I agree with Snake Vargas to a point, It`s still just plain dull.

Oh yeah. The new XK looks better, no doubt handles better and has a much more tasteful looking interior with build quality equal to the Lexus.
