Road and Track Slalom speeds, MPH.

Heres what it is: http://www.sscautos.com/multimedia/video/mov02938.mpg

Ok R&T has been performing these test for a very long time and I thought I could make a little list of the cars' times. The test is a good measurement of how well a car shifts from turning right to left but a good time here doesnt necessarily connote that the car is extraordinarily fast and extraordinarily good handling. Its interesting though and think you guys would get a kick out of it, so here goes. And if someone doesnt mind maybe making this thread sticky (i dont know how), because the list grows and grows. Ok here goes.

Re: Road and Track Slalom speeds, MPH.

Thanks for the times. It seems like engine placement is the key here. Just look at the Porsche cars. They all(except for the Caynne) have the engine either at the rear on in the middle of the car. With that being said one can quickly come to the conclusion that nose heavy cars like DB9 wouldn't exactly rock this slalom test.

^ could be. All of Porsche's speeds are exteremly fast. Another funny thing i found was that convertables usually did better in this test than their coupe counter parts. That could be because of the added strut bars along the sides of the cars to keep them rigid however I'm still a bit confused about it.

After demand, here's Road & Track's 700ft slalom list. Please note the list is not completley done yet :usa7uh:

*Remember this slalom course is much bigger and different from the "18 metre) Some of the results may seem strange, some not. Of course cars behave differently on different courses but it is my opinion that the 36 Metre slalom (a larger, longer slalom course like this) judges these vehicles more properly (IE, more what i expected)

Anyways aside from my personal bias ;)

The actual collection for this list wasn't too bad, converting all of these from mph to km/h was though :t-banghea

I think it would be good 'cause both of you provided those infos from the same source - R&T.

I'm gonna do it and if Matt won't be happy about it, i'll unmerge them...:usa7uh:

Only 1,5 km/h difference...

Best Motorcars Worldwide...:D

You'll be happy to know the Z4M Coupe has a faster time than the SLR on the 18 metre slalom ;)

How the hell is the SLK350 faster than the SLK55 AMG? Even though it is a 0.1 km/h difference the AMG should have been faster by quite a bit... :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh: :t-banghea :t-banghea
