EQS [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
Frankly, I can't see what's progressive about EQS. A century old principle of electrified tranport, that in fact was already phased out by technical evolution, perhaps?
W223 is by far out dated in a technical perspective. In political perspective, so it seems, yes.
So the political support for BEV's is the reason for all your scepticism?

That electric vehicles didn't make the cut a hundred years ago doesn't mean they're technically inferior today. Also governmental support for the development and rollout of technologies promising societal benefits is a standard practice.

Any confirmation on when the official launch event would take place? Must be near now as those photos keep coming

It's progressive as it offers more cabin space on a smaller footprint, more power on a third of the energy consumption, less emissions, a quiter ride and effortless power delivery.

I still think it will look okay in metal. It will have a lot of presence with the expansive profile and glasshouse. It must at least have 19-inch wheels to look decent.

Managed to make it a little more brighter...

This made me audibly chuckle

And sacrifice all the other elements that the MB would likely satisfy you moreso then the the Tesla such as ride, refinement, quality etc.? These are some of the reasons you have been a repeat S-Class buyer no?

You have such an interesting situation Mick. MB should have had you in their customer clinics.
M-B simply must have conducted EQS clinics in which loyal S-Class customers had the opportunity to provide feedback. Or...?

Not to minimize Mick's comments, but Mick isn't a particularly rare customer profile for the S-class outside of his mileage per year from what I can tell. It doesn't take a whole customer clinic (even though they did it anyways) to know that the traditional S-class buyer isn't going to take kindly to this shape. This EQS isn't for the traditionalists. Although that exterior might not be for progressives either if the blob shape doesn't land well. :)

I will also say this- the most singular thing that disappoints me with the production car vs. the concept is the lack of visual width coming from the front end design. The sloping hood and fender treatment makes this car look more narrow than it is. This is a trait shared with other cars with this type of front end, mid 2000s Civic included. The "hips" over the rear wheels address this issue as you move to the back thankfully. Aerodynamic considerations are the cause for this but it's disappointing all the same.

Hartmut Sinkwitz has said a few interesting things on this matter, in an interview sometime ago. Vide https://www.just-auto.com/interview...s-benz-interior-design-director_id194401.aspx
Especially the paragraph headed I guess there is a balance to be struck between using a touchscreen an physical butons and dials. What is consumer research telling you about what Mercedes customers want?

Sinkwitz is such an underrated designer IMO. Probably one of the most progressive and influential interior design directors at the moment. There's is no doubt what he has been doing at Mercedes has captivated and thrilled buyers and had industry wide influence on designers.

The EQS’ proportions is due to the design remit which is to maximise the car’s interior space. It’s a long car.

When you have to explain (make excuses) the design has failed. Mercedes better than anyone knows how to design a big car with plenty of space without it looking like a 2005 Civic.

A lot of negative posts here.

Another thing that is common in all forums is people after posting 400 comments in the forum - they are finding excuses to not buy the new model when it is released:

"I can't stand how Mercedes f#cked up the the door closing sound of the new S63AMG. I'll therefor stick with my car for a couple more years."

"can the EQS tow a 3 ton caravan? No? Shitty car. Mercedes is no longer a quality car. I will stick to my car for a couple more years."
