NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/05/07 -- For the second straight year, Porsche earned the top score as the most prestigious luxury automobile brand in the 2007 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent New York-based Luxury Institute. Mercedes and Lexus tied for second place; BMW was rated third.

What wealthy consumers familiar with the brand had to say about Porsche:

-- "Fantasy, power, style and excitement."
-- "Well built, good reputation, good styling, and good performance,
holds value, sporty, powerful, recaptures youth."
-- "It has always been a high-end car with design and elegance, and
represents an accomplished person."
-- "It's a brand that I trust and respect. I own one and am proud of it."

"We enhanced our impartial surveys by asking for candid consumer comments as to why they would, or, would not, recommend luxury auto brands to people they care about most," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "Wealthy consumers tell us that Porsche stays true to its core values and to their enthusiasts. While consumers have had to endure bouts of schizophrenia and identity crises from some of their beloved luxury auto brands, Porsche remains, according to wealthy consumers familiar with the brand, an automobile that never loses its way on the luxury highway, even at high speeds."

Now I can understand MB and even Lexus, but Porsche ?!

-- "Fantasy, power, style and excitement."

Fantasy ?!
The Porsche nose comes from 1930s, the overall shape from the 1950s.

Power ?!
Well, Porsches are more about active suspension, movable aerodynamics, fancy clutches, fancy AWD, fancy tyres, rather than brute power, where MB and even BMW and Audi beat Porsche (minus the Cayenne Turbo S)

Style ?!
OK

Excitement ?!
Hmm, arghh ... compared to the 550, 356 Carrera 2, 901 2.7 RS and 930 ?!

-- "Well built, good reputation, good styling, and good performance,
holds value, sporty, powerful, recaptures youth."
-- "It has always been a high-end car with design and elegance, and
represents an accomplished person."
-- "It's a brand that I trust and respect. I own one and am proud of it."

Kind of agree, but recaptures youth ?!
Wasn't at one point Porsche in danger because the 911 owners were old and kept on dying ?!

Also I think that Audi should have comed after MB/Lexus, not BMW.

Wow...I would have thought

1. Rolls Royce
2. Bentley
3. Maybach
4. Mercedes-Benz
5. BMW
6. Lexus
7. Infiniti....and so on

At least thats how I would have rated it. Not porsches...that's crazy. Porsche really doesn't impress like that here. Mostly old men drive the car at least over in the US. Old men that want to be young. Even in Hollywood and music videos Mercedes and Rolls Royce are used.

Looks like they don't really rate Audi at all, looks like Audi has got to play catch up in the US!

Well I kind of agree.
Rolls Royce deserved top spot.

I can't say I'm surprised at all. Porsche is an outstanding brand and far more exciting and aspirational than the others mentioned IMO.
