Z Series Premiere: The all new BMW Z4 sDrive35is

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
Design wise, the new bumper is aggressive, but I think I still prefer the standard one, it is just perfect. But I am glad the car got other updates like power bump, DCT and last but not least a sportier suspension.

Standard sDrive35i front/rear bumper still looked pretty sleek. M-Sport pack on sDrive35is looked not bad, but the wheels!? The sDrive30i w/M-Sport rear bumper diffuser looked cheap and worse than standard sDrive30i.

Second favorite BMW just got better....wow. Time once again to book my trip for Detroit.

Audi called, it wants it's silver mirrors back. :D

Anyway 335Hp and DCT is interesting, looks like '35is' line is being positioned against the Audi's S cars now that they have been downgraded from competing with M.

I wonder if this 35is will be standard across the range like with the Audi S-range. The concept is highly alike; similar engine output, dual-clutch transmissiong, exterior package with silver side mirrors and positioned right under the M/RS cars.

There used to be a E90 320si before the facelift.

But now there is the Performance option for the 1er and 3er so is there need for the "s"?

this one needs carbon mirrors and a carbon rear diffusor ... where is bmw performance parts when you need them ?

The new Z4 is so heavy to begin with it cannot even think of competing with the Boxster dynamically unless it sheds some weight. More power will make it quicker for the straight line, but it'll just be as clumsy on the twisties, even with a stiffer suspension. Weight is a far bigger penalty than we would imagine. Not to mention that the Boxster is still after all a mid-engined car.

That said the new Z4 looks so good and has so many good things going for it. I'll buy it on looks alone and since we don't really drive convertibles on the 10/10ths most of the time, the Z4 is well placed to succeed here.

^ The folding hardtop Z4 35is weighs pretty much exactly the same as the Audi TT RS cabrio, without a hard roof (but with AWD). It really is not as heavy as people want to make it sound. 1580 kg for a car with 340 hp and 500 Nm isn't bad.
Porsche Boxter S weighs 100 kg less, but is much slower, is a 10 year old platform (meaning next gen will be considerable heavier, like always), and has a fabric roof.

I think the iS concept is closer to Audi's S-models than the standard cars but still not there. The price will be very important for this one, it should not be more expensive than the TT-S.

A 335iS with the same treatment could be a stealer, given that a decent spec S4 is almost the same as an M3.

I really like it very much!! the best BMW on sale by far. I love the iS rear bumper, and the interior. But I don´t like the rear bumper of the M pack, I like the standard better.

Anyways what a great car!!

Uhm?? You do realise this is a TT RS killer right? TT S will be eaten for breakfast.

And BMW has the regular M3 for the RS4/RS5. The S4/S5 is for Performance models of the 335i, and Audi has nothing for the M3 GTS.

does anyone know if the 3.0 NA engine will get any increase in performance compared to the non "M-pack" version?
would be interesting if it did.
If I lived somewhere without 3-4 months of snow and bad roads, I would so get this car.
