XE [Official] Jaguar XE sedan

The Jaguar XE (X760) is a front engine, rear- or all-wheel drive four-door compact-executive saloon manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque for model years 2016–2024 — across a single generation. The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show. Production of the XE ceased in mid-2024.
I have seen several XE on the roads, I am surprised people are actually buying these things.

Wheels had it as a finalist in COTY testing. Should be an interesting read.

I'm going to have to go to the local Jag dealership to check this one out.

Saw an XE on the road for the first time yesterday. It's not the prettiest car - certainly seems to photograph better than its on-road persona. Didn't feel the slightest pang of purchase remorse whatsoever. F30 LCI is just too damn mucking afazing.

@martinbo I am due to get a new car soon and I was looking at a few models second hand, but the cars that might catch my eye are 2015 F30 320i/320d with M-sport packs with very low mileage going for slightly less than R400K, very tempting as I have an E90 320d already so would be interesting comparing them on a daily basis how they drive.

@Rolf - there is amazing value-for-money to be had in nearly new F30 pre-LCIs. Just be wary of M-Sport (don't know if you're going to be owning in RSA or Middle East) as the suspension can be over-firm over the worst roads. I stick to my assertion that Sport Line offers the most agreeable combination of daily comfort and sufficient sportiness.

Oh and back on topic: don't buy an XE. Not in SA. It's horribly overpriced. If you can't stomach a Beemer then there are good deals to be had on the splendid W205 also.

Thanks Martin for your tips on the BMW, I will be buying in RSA so will then rather look at the Sport Line trim as I will be using it as a family car, mostly my missus will be driving it as she is there in RSA at the moment. I also like the W205 so might look at that car as well. The XE is hugely overpriced, I have the CAR mag comparison with the 340i and they didn't rate the XE S well mainly due to the massive price. I have sat in one before at last years Qatar Motor Show and I wasn't impressed with the interior, it left me totally underwhelmed, the styling also I felt wasn't progressive enough over the 7yr old XF.

Sorry to go off topic again but early next month they will have the Qatar Motor Show again and I will be going and take alot of pics to put on the forum together with my comments on the cars.

Funny you should just post this. About an hour ago I picked up a car for the weekend and a drive to London. I had the choice of an XE (not sure of the engine but probably diesel), or a 320d. Despite not having the pro nav, a manual gearbox (auto is essential in London), and overall a more basic interior than the XE (the XE did seem well-specced and the interior looked very plush), I went for the 320d. I've never driven the XE and it would have been a good chance to do that, but I just couldn't turn down the 320d.

It's an LCI model and has the LED headlights.

Personally I haven't seen the car here but Sweden isn't a typical Jaguar land. Here we have Audi,BMW, MB and Volvos. XE looks good in pics but thats the closest I got to it.

...but I saw this cat this summer and it looked fantastic irl.

I have seen several of them in my area. In a lot of colors, red, white, blanck, silver, sport pack included. I have not liked it in neither of them. There is something wrong with the profile IMO. I just don´t like the proportions. The front tries to look aggressive but does not do the job entirely...

I would put it behind the three germans, no doubt.

I'm right with you, but not only the proportions. I see one silver XE all days and, for example, if you see the rear is very narrow. I think this car isn't going to be one success with the germans as is the Jaguar's intention. I don't know if I will be the only one, but I see one mix between the front taken from BMW and the taillights taken from A5 before facelift.

XE is not attractive for me.

It came 2nd, behind the MX-5. I didn't have the chance to read through the article but it seems like this XE is well received by the local press.

I didn't think it was second. I thought it and the Audi Q7 were just listed alphabetically like the rest of the vehicles in each of the subsections.

Not sure how it even got to be a finalist considering how poor they thought the packaging, interior design and quality were. Yet the S Coupe which they thought was practically flawless got dismissed in the first round based on price. It's not cheap, but it's exceptional value next to comparable Bentleys etc.

Wheels COTY has lost the plot a bit. They need to be more consistent in their criteria and evaluative process. The goalpost seem to change for every vehicle.

Oh yes. The seats in the 'S' variant were reportedly as hard as a plank and every model they tested exceeded the set cruise control limit by at least 10km/h on small descents. Not exactly evidence of thorough engineering for what is supposed to be a premium product.

So what did Wheels mag say to justify the XE's inclusion in the final selection?

What!? a Jag beating a Mercedes in Wheels Mag! Oh no whats happening to this world!

To give this a bit of context, Wheels Mag used to be the most respected automotive publication in Australia, and COTY testing from Wheels is the most comprehensive of tests in Australia, involving driving cars on proving grounds and over a wide range of environments. Having said that Wheels is no longer the authoritative voice it used to be.

It was a very good drive with a good range of engines and looked pretty. It's interior design and quality were a let down, its aluminium structure hasn't made it any lighter than rivals and it's packaging was poor. Hard to see how it made the top 3 really.

What happened to Motor, I think I recall Wheels buying them? I used to buy both when I lived in NZ, last time I was back it was only Wheels on sale.

Jaguar XE saves 500,000 tonnes of CO2 in one year

JLR has invested more than £7 million in their press shops in Halewood, Castle Bromwich and Solihull to improve both quality and efficiency.
JLR says that the pioneering recycle process used in the construction of the XE’s body has allowed them to reclaim more than 50,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap, the equivalent weight of 200,000 XE body shells during the first year of production. This results in the prevention of more than 500,000 tonnes of CO2 being released in the atmosphere by not using primary aluminum.

Closed-loop aluminum recycling method clearly does the job, as the procedure proved to be 95 per cent more energy efficient than the actual production of body panels out of primary aluminum, with the Jaguar XE becoming the first car in the world to use this high-strength aluminum alloy.

“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Jaguar Land Rover,” said Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director. “We are driven by the desire to produce increasingly world-class, light-weight, vehicles, but we also want to be world leading in how we build them.”

With the structural grade of the recycled aluminum alloy tested thoroughly, JLR is now using it also in the construction of the new XFexecutive saloon and F-Pace SUV.

I promised to hold the judgment till I see the car on the road quite a few times, and I get used to it...Well, I hereby announce my ultimate opinion
