The A5 is not on the same level as dynamically as the 3er.

Things change quite a bit when you add the quattro sport rear differential. See EVO, Drivers Republic and other competent publications with their tests of S4 and S5 cabriolet that DO feature the rear differential. When offered on non-S models, this statement you made is very debatable, if not outright wrong.

I'm amused by the "it's pointless" discussion. French carmakers for instance are making hatch+sedan+SW versions of their cars since before Mathusalem (only one size smaller...)

It's not a new car, only a slightly altered rear allowing greater practicity by the use of a fifth door instead of a small bottlid. Almost no R&D cost involved here, unlike a 5er GT for instance.

This way, let the bootlid open and you pack your giant fridge in the car, with a more casual appearance than a SW. Thing you could never dream of in a regular A4.
 
Oh for heavens' sake. The whole reason a wagon is so practical and versatile is because of the angle of the rear windshield. Think really hard - if the angle of the rear 'screen is nearly vertical then the interior load area is like big square box. :) With a fancy, slopey rear screen you have to fold the rear seats down and even then the total volume is very limited - and you can't have Suzie and Johnny in the back.

People who argue this point have never used a wagon for what it's truly capable of in terms of loadability. I have.

But let the bootlid open, and voilà! the fridge is in the car. As the rear windshield goes with the bootlid, opening it removes the inconvenient of a slopping rear window!

That's the whole point of a fifth door: big opening, and possibility to put big objects in the car by letting the fifth door open.

Can't do this in a sedan.

However the waving character line is too long, so the wave effect is lost. It's not one single gracious move any more.

How can the rear window go down? It can't retract in the door without a quarter line, from what I see here!

No.

Look at the rear tail lights, in the official teaser picture it has LEDs, this one does not.
 
I still don't see why they need this and the A7?

True - sometimes I snap myself by just looking at the pics!!! :eusa_doh:

First infos sound quite impressive - like the idea with the boot, especially for such a 4-door coupé it is much easier to load cases, bags etc! Works brilliant just tested it with the new Superb, where you can switch between both positions.

Nothing unexpected with the engines, though…3.0 TDI should be THE engine! :usa7uh:

That is, assuming, you were referreing to me regarding the illiteracy.
 
If you got rid of the 3rd window, you wouldn't think it different than a lot of sedans. For example the Lexus GS.
I do like the idea of a window between the rear door and the C-pillar.
 
Why do German Automakers feel they need to make 22 versions of the same car? The regular A5 was fine. Why go mess it up? Well I guess some Audi fans will like it. Guess Audi saw a need for this car. :eusa_thin
 
Oh it's a 4-Door with a hatch? Nevermind about my comments then. I'm not a fan of those concepts that seem to be becoming a trend all of a sudden, and those renditions aren't too promising IMO.
 
Oh, an A4 CC, that was unexpected.

Quite a few of us on this forum have praised the Passat CC for it's handsome looks but as appealing as it is, there is a public VW phobia -- especially when it comes to cars prised above €25,000. Let's face it, a front wheel drive €35,000 is simply not going to cut it on the streets. Therefore the A5 Sportsback does makes sense, but won't it cannibalize Passat CC sales. I fear the Passat will be slaughtered the same way the A8 made the Phaeton look like an ugly duckling in the family.
