Cadillac ATS Official: 2013 Cadillac ATS

The Cadillac ATS is a compact executive car (D-segment) manufactured by General Motors and marketed by Cadillac from 2012 to 2019, available in both four-door sedan and two-door coupé body styles. In the US, it is the brand's first locally-built entry-level premium car since the Cimarron, and in Europe, it is the successor of the Swedish-built Cadillac BLS. The ATS was developed at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and assembled the ATS at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan. The ATS was replaced by the Cadillac CT4 in 2019 for the 2020 model year.
Yeah, especially not with it looking so much like the Malibu!

Being an ex-owner of a 2008 Malibu that not only treated me very well, and withstood tons of work-horse duty, but sold after 2+ years and 30K miles for the exact same price that I bough it for, I was really excited to see the new Malibu. I gotta say, the new one looks VERY good. It has a Benz-ish quality.... Not necessarily in the styling (which it does somewhat bite off from), but in the presence, i.e it looks thick, stately and solid, especially for such a cheap Sedan. I was really impressed. The current Malibu looks pretty substantial, but the new one looks so much more substantial next to the old one (without resorting to looking bloated to do so),- which almost appears frail in comparison.

I was actually looking forward to this car to see if it could live up to the hype that GM/Caddy were creating in the run-up to its debut.

Interior looks really good. Exterior proportions, from all directions....front, rear, side profile....looks too stubby. Based on the side profile teaser released earlier, I thought it'd look better proportion.

Powertrain options look good and competitive on paper, so that's a good start. And it's RWD, so that makes even more promising.

While I'd still take the 3eer over this, I do hope this does sell well.

Looking forward to see the new Malibu IRL soon. I was looking at the prices of the Malibu, and seems to be a bargain!

Looks almost exactly like the new Malibu, namely in the glasshouse and side details.

Al least Cadillac had it in them to try and convince consumers that their brand is worth considering unlike Chrylser who redressed the Sebring as a 200C.

The headlight-to-fender treatment does evoke Nissan, and that's unfortunate for where Cadillac are trying to go. I do like the hood cutout treatment (better than on BMWs), but the gap between hood and front fascia could be tighter. The black/aluminum interior looks really good. Dark brown/wood one is nice too, but should have a wood insert on at least part of the wheel. Otherwise, there's a lot to like here and I hope it really takes off.

Some lapses in leather quality and gaps inside, and it looks like the sheetmetal under the rear seat bottoms intrude too far forward. Otherwise, a pretty good effort.

Cadillac ATS-L with stretched wheelbase coming exclusively to China

Will be locally produced
A recent report indicates Cadillac plans a long wheelbase variant of the ATS but only for the Chinese market.
By now most of you know that Chinese car buyers have a soft spot for LWB versions of various models so it shouldn't come as a surprise Cadillac is reportedly elongating the ATS' wheelbase for the Chinese market. While the regular model is currently being imported, the ATS-L will be locally produced by the Shanghai-GM joint venture.
Production of the model is slated to commence in the second half of 2014 and according to the report Cadillac will stretch the wheelbase by 100mm which means it will be expanded to 2875mm. Under the hood will be a 2.5-liter engine with 200 bhp (149 kW) and a V6 3.6-liter generating 320 bhp (239 kW).
Car News China suggests a starting price of 275,000 yuan (about 45,500 USD / 33,200 EUR / 27,500 GBP) for a model which will have to go up against the BMW 3-Series Li and an upcoming long-wheelbase version of the C-Class.

I have seen a few of these here in Middle East and they look very stylish especially in that cherry red colour but the interior is a big let down compared to the Germans

Cadillac is usually aiming at the African american demographic.

Toyota Top Choice Among African-American Car Buyers in 2010, According to Polk
TUESDAY, APRIL 26, 2011
African-American market increased 68 percent more than non-ethnic market in 2010 as buyers returned to showrooms
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (April 26, 2011) – Toyota led all automotive brands among new vehicle purchases by African-Americans in 2010, according to Polk. Total new vehicle registrations among this audience reached 641,090, an increase of 11.5 percent over 2009 -- and represented 7.4 percent of all new vehicle registrations in 2010. Furthermore, the African-American market volume increase was 68.6 percent greater than the non-ethnic market increase of 6.8 percent.

"With the U.S. population growing faster in the African-American segment than others, there's a significant opportunity for automotive manufacturers and dealers to begin to align marketing initiatives toward this specific audience," said Marc Bland, product strategist at Polk. "Those companies that are ahead of the curve, like Toyota, are already reaping the rewards."

BRAND PERFORMANCE AMONG AFRICAN-AMERICANS
The top five brands account for 60 percent of the African-American market, each with more than 10 percent share. Ford and Chevrolet joined Toyota to round out the top three. The complete top 10 is as follows:

BRANDPERCENTAGE OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN MARKET
Toyota15.0%
Ford11.7%
Chevrolet11.4%
Honda11.3%
Nissan10.2%
Hyundai5.6%
Kia4.2%
Dodge4.0%
GMC2.8%
Volkswagen2.2%
AFRICAN-AMERICAN MARKET GROWTH LEADERS
Buick, Hyundai, Kia, Cadillac, GMC and Infiniti are doing extremely well with the African-American market. With the exception of Cadillac, all grew faster in 2010 within the African-American market than overall.

BRANDPERCENTAGE CHANGE IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN MARKET VS. 2009
Buick72.2%
Hyundai53.2%
Kia34.6%
Cadillac34.4%
GMC33.6%
Infiniti30.9%
Subaru28.3%
Audi27.1%
Acura21.0%
Volkswagen20.6%
Ford19.3%
Nissan18.9%
Mazda16.3%
Chevrolet13.4%
Land Rover13.1%
Buick increased its registrations in the African-American market by 72.2 percent in 2010, and Hyundai was up 53.2 percent over 2009 with this audience.

Acura, Land Rover, Mercedes and BMW are not growing their share of the African- American market as fast as the overall market. These brands have significant opportunity to connect more with this audience and grow their share of the market by attracting more affluent African-Americans to their brands.

The U.S. Census Bureau projects that the African-American population will grow 12 percent by 2020 and nearly 25 percent from current levels in 2030. If manufacturers do not establish themselves with these critical ethnic audiences now, significant growth opportunities with these influential and critical groups will be missed.

Polk works with manufacturers to help them analyze potential market opportunities and partners with dealers, advertising and digital agencies to create strategies for reaching the growing African-American consumer base.

Cadillac is usually aiming at the African american demographic.

I've noticed that for quite a few years along with Buick, of course, and Infiniti.

I didn't want to say it outright that Cadillac seems to be a black-people brand on the account of being called racist, but I think the users on this forum are mature enough to refrain from such thoughtless rhetoric.

Make an unforgettable first impression. It’s time for a brand new Cadillac.
