Yes this is the niche within the X1 to be exploited especially those that want more practicality from a standard SUV.
The next generation X3 also gets an extended version in order to increase the appeal in that segment.
Its part of further expansion to the BMW X line offering each BMW SAV in standard , long wheelbase and Coupe.
It increases appeal but also maximises profitability as well.

Agree with @Mars1965 , the interior photo has windows just behind the A pillars, and the X1 doesn't have them.

Having sat in the 2er AT, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the interior. Forums lead me to believe it was shocking.
