Mr. M
Tire Trailblazer
Hello folks,
Yet again, I fell for the Land of the Rising Sun and sold my MkV Golf GTI for a Japanese car.
I thought about it for a long time, and decided that if a good offer came for the Golf, I'd let it go. It came, and a S204 in the market hasn't moved in a long time. So both stars aligned, if I could put it that way.
I think many of you may not know what the S204 is, such is its rarity and mystic especially in the western world. We're pretty lucky in Southeast Asia to receive 30 of these models, of which a handful (I reckon 15-20) found owners in Singapore.
It's a big change from FWD to AWD, but after owning some truly stellar front drivers I felt it was time for a proper rally-inspired AWD turbocharged car. So in essence, either a Evo or a STI.
I looked at a few Evo 9s, but they are always modified, which I don't like. It's difficult to find a JDM-specced STI as well, as all of the official imports into Singapore are Euro-spec.
Thankfully I chanced upon this. It's not baby-ed in the garage, having almost 90,000km in the clock and some visible scars on its paintwork. However, it's been kept largely stock except for some preventive modifications like a methanol injection kit, a turbo timer and boost controller (I guess we can't have all we want).
I never wanted a car so much before I even driven it. I guess the hype of the S204 got to me - and friends who have driven it or owns it also have told me very positive comments. So I test drove it, ensured it was mechanically sound, and bought it. As to whether I'd really love it, time will tell! We don't always get to try cars for great lengths to know whether we really like it, especially not a rare model like this.
The highlights for me are the engine (EJ20 + VF42 turbo), bespoke carbon fibre seats (90% of passengers who try them don't like them! But they fit me...), bespoke suspension setup/geometry, street-legal factory-fitted titanium exhaust and bespoke rims.

Thanks for reading this. I love my car so much I just had to share it with my friends here! Looking back, it's really interesting to see what cars we progress to over the years.
Oh, and one parting picture of the Golf GTI...
