X-Class Mercedes X class coming

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class (W470) is a pickup truck that was sold by Mercedes-Benz. Unveiled at a world premiere in Cape Town, South Africa in July 2017, the pickup took its chassis from the Nissan Navara and employed many Mercedes-specific features and technologies, including some engines not shared with the Navara. It first went on sale in late 2017. Production of the X-Class was halted in May 2020 due to slow sales.

Mercedes-Benz is allegedly working on an X-Class baby crossover which will be positioned below the GLA-Class.

Almost a year ago we heard a rumor about Mercedes-Benz plotting a sub-GLA crossover and several months later a report indicated the German marque is working on a new range of entry-level models with the X-Class moniker. Now, Auto Express suggests a smaller Mercedes-Benz crossover called X-Class is in the pipeline and most likely it will be based on the Renault Captur.

The same source indicates Mercedes-Benz will launch a sportier-looking variant of the ML in 2015 with the MLC designation which from our knowledge will compete with the BMW X6. About a year later the X-Class should hit showrooms as a more premium German alternative to the Captur.

Considering how small the GLA is, you won't be able to fit in this one and it won't be able to carry any cargo. I vote NO.

Make it a Smart.

M

How many bloody cars do they want. It's getting beyond ridiculous.... In my mind I'm just going to pretend that they start with the C-Class and work up from there.
and if I get another B-Class while the car is in for service, I'm going to crash it into a ditch ... this crap would never happen at Porsche hehe

I agree with the notion that this should be a Smart...I mean WTF else is that brand for?! Mercedes is making the same damn mistake they made with Maybach, if they don't give Smart a larger portfolio (This retarded X-Class would be a great start). This is absolutely disgusting and appalling if MB goes any lower than the CLA (which I already despise). Where can we start a petition? :banghead:

So they are making a Suzuki Jimmy. In developing countries with rough terrain such a car make sense and would be our equivalent of a hatchback but in the western world tiny SUVs aren't practical but simply feed people's ever growing needs to flaunt more wealth than they have.

I agree with you guys above. What the hell is Smart for!

I'm telling you, 'Smart by Mercedes Benz'.

Stupid Mercedes board of management. :banghead: :ROFLMAO:

BMW won't be happy with MB using the letter "X"

X Class sounds wrong.

who ever approved that should slap himself.

It already is. Porsche is bringing over the Macan to slot under the Cayenne, and a Pajun to slot under the Panamera.

X-Class plans were cancelled recently. :)

Mercedes drops proposal for subcompacts
Bigger Smart may become Audi A1 rival

BRESCIA, Italy -- The smallest Mercedes-Benz will remain the A-class compact, although the Smart brand could expand into subcompacts, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said.

"We had a long debate about whether we should expand Mercedes into the B [subcompact] segment and we decided this is not going to happen," he said last week after a media event here. "There is a possibility that Smart could expand into the subcompact segment, but we have not decided that yet," Zetsche added.

The Daimler CEO, who is also head of the Mercedes brand, said it would have been difficult for Mercedes to be profitable with a subcompact model. The highly competitive segment already features products such as the A1 from Volkswagen Group subsidiary Audi and a range of vehicles from BMW Group's Mini brand.

This summer Smart will unveil the third-generation two-seat ForTwo microcar and the second-generation four-seat ForFour. At about 3500mm long, the new ForFour will compete against near-premium minicars such as the Fiat 500 and Opel/Vauxhall Adam.

A year ago German magazine Auto Bild said that Mercedes was considering launching a so-called "X-class," as a range of front-wheel-drive subcompacts costing less than 20,000 euros. The cars would be designed to fill a gap between the Smart brand and the Mercedes A- and B-class compacts.

The magazine said Mercedes planned to develop it with the help of Renault-Nissan as a way of expanding the partnership to pool development and production of small cars and engines. Mercedes was reportedly aiming at global annual sales of between 100,000 and 150,000 units for each of the first two X-class models.

HALLELUJAH! Common sense prevails.

Smart just needs some TLC and it could be everything they need it to be to compete with mini and the Audi subcompacts.

Annette Winkler, the chief of the Smart division of Daimler, was asked about the future of the Smart brand by the source. She said, “the introduction of the new models is a very special and important moment.” Winkler added that the two vehicles would pave the way for the new era at Smart.

Stefan Bratzel, a former marketing manager for the Daimler brand, now the director of the Center of Automotive Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany pointed out that the new generation of Smart cars would be the brand’s last chance to justify its existence, so they’d better get it right this time.

I really hope that concept design translates to reality, because they are fantastic looking vehicles finally. My wife would happily replace her A1 with a four four if it looked like the concept.

It looks like a little 4WD now ?

I hope the front doesn't come off too much like a Chinese copy of smart.

Yeah. The nose looks more pronounced in this vid, probably due to pedestrian crash regulations? :)
