OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Mercedes-Benz “Writing Instruments” at Fashion Week Berlin: Refined writing instruments reflect the brand’s elegant style

Berlin - The new Mercedes-Benz “Writing Instruments” collection is distinguished by outstanding materials, individual design and a colour scheme which echoes the Mercedes-Benz paintwork colours. Mercedes-Benz will be presenting the exclusive selection of writing instruments, consisting of a fountain pen, a rollerball, a ballpoint and a propelling pencil, at the second Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin - January 27 to 31, 2008. The new licensed collection is the result of a successful collaboration between Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH and the renowned Italian pen manufacturer Aquila Brands S.p.A.

The Mercedes-Benz licensed collection encapsulates the personality of the brand and combines the highly successful design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz with the technical expertise of the well-known manufacturer Aquila Brands S.p.A., a company which was founded in 1938 and which has now been producing quality writing instruments for three generations. In 2006 the company was named the “Most Prestigious Luxury Writing Instruments Brand” by New York’s Luxury Institute. The fountain pen, rollerball, ballpoint and pencil combine timeless design and contemporary styling elements with top quality and perfect craftsmanship.

Contemporary classics reflect the brand’s style

Close collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz Design Studio in Sindelfingenhas resulted in a selection of contemporary classics which mirror the unmistakable style of the brand. The design of the writing instruments is based on the stylistic vocabulary of the Mercedes-Benz vehicles themselves. The star emblem on the clip, for example, recalls the positioning of the brand logo on the radiator grille and is an eye-catching feature in its own right.

Genuine paintwork colours

The colour scheme selected for the writing instruments reflects their close association with the brand. Each item in the collection is available in a choice of four metallic paintwork shades – obsidian black, iridium silver, tanzanite blueand chablis – each combined with subtly placed chrome elements. To create the unmistakable depth of sheen, several layers of paint are applied and each item is then hand-polished. The ring on the cap is laser engraved with the name “Mercedes-Benz”, and the clips have also been specifically designed and developed for Mercedes-Benz: the star is applied separately and has a three-dimensional form.

These design features ensure that the “Writing Instruments” licensed collection epitomises style, effortless superiority and individuality – qualities with which discerning Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car customers are familiar and which they expect of their select personal accessories.

Durable materials, first-class craftsmanship

The meticulous selection of materials is also indicative of the high quality of the range. The barrel of each writing instrument and the screw caps are made from tough yet lightweight aluminium. The clip, tip, centre ring and other metal elements are made from brass which is then chrome-plated.

The fountain pen features a hardwearing stainless steel nib, size M, with an iridium tip for extra durability and a smooth flow. It is available with converter or cartridge fill.
The writing instruments which make up the Mercedes-Benz licensed collection are hand-assembled in Pastorano in Italy. Here the traditional and the modern are combined to perfection: CNC milling machinery ensures the ultimate precision when it comes to manufacturing the conical aluminium barrels. The fountain pen nib and technology, the pencil system and the ink cartridges and ballpoint refills are provided by the German premium manufacturer Schmidt Technology, a company which has been producing parts for top-brand writing instruments around the world for over 50 years now.

To ensure customers are provided with the best possible guidance when purchasing the items and expert service after their purchase, the Mercedes-Benz “Writing Instruments” are exclusively available via select specialist retailers. In Germanythe prices, including VAT, range between Euro 185.00 and 215.00. All products are available now.
