The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain (X 213) gets confirmed along with the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe, the new smart fortwo electric and, for the very first time, the new smart forfour electric drive. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 showcar will be another attraction of the Mercedes-Benz stand at Paris. No word on a possible electric concept car to preview the future EQ models.

Stuttgart/Paris, Germany/France, Sep 15, 2016 - The attendance of this year's Paris Motor Show by Mercedes-Benz Cars is characterised by change, both digitally and electrically: celebrating their world premieres in Hall 5.2 will be the electric drive versions of the new smart fortwo, the smart fortwo cabrio and, for the first time, the smart forfour. A Mercedes-Benz show car embodying a concrete vision of a totally new generation of vehicles with battery-electric drive will also have its world premiere. A new member of the E-Class family will be on show for the first time: alongside the Saloon and Estate variants, the E-Class All-Terrain vehicle is a new, lifestyle-oriented addition to the model range.

The focus on the topic of electric mobility is supported by the architecture of the trade show stand and its media presentations. Running centrally from the front edge through to the large LED panel on the rear building is the E-Mobility Lane: the electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Cars are positioned on black, backlit glass. They form the cordon for the Mercedes-Benz show car which is displayed in the central perspective. This provides a specific vision of a completely new vehicle generation with battery-electric drive system.

Architecturally the stand, which covers a total area of 2500 square metres, is framed by the "Silver Flow". This extensive, attention-grabbing shape has been the symbol of Mercedes-Benz's global trade show attendance since 2014.

A new feature is the integration of social media communication in the stand design: presentations on key topics are streamed via Facebook Live to the Mercedes community – at the same time, the stream can also be viewed on the five media panels on the stand.

Several world premieres from smart, Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG

In total Mercedes-Benz Cars is presenting around 30 vehicles in Paris, including several world premieres:

    • The new smart electric drive makes entry into the world of electric mobility easier than ever. This is because it combines the unique agility of the smart with local emission-free driving – perfect for urban mobility. Fourth-generation emission-free driving pleasure can be enjoyed not just in the smart fortwo coupé and smart fortwo cabrio, but now also for the first time in the four-seater smart forfour. As a result smart is the only brand to offer its entire model range not only with petrol engines but also with electric drive.
    • A new member of the E-Class family will be on show for the first time in the guise of the E-Class All-Terrain: thanks to off-road-based design features, the All-Terrain boasts a powerful and robust look and at the same time stands out from the classic estate. Dynamism and modern luxury are combined with status-enhancing poise and assurance, and follow the current design idiom.
    • The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé combines a sporty, elegant design with the brand's hallmark Driving Performance and the advantages of an SUV in terms of seating position, interior flexibility and also traction off the beaten track. The 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine, the automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC with shortened shift times and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive configured with a rear bias form the basis for an especially dynamic on-road driving experience. Additionally, the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé also enables occasional off-road excursions to be undertaken: the ground clearance can be increased at the touch of a button, and the pneumatic all-round self-levelling ensures a constant vehicle level at all times.
A further highlight is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which is celebrating its show premiere in Paris. The 2+2-seater pays homage to the glorious age of the aero coupés and consciously carries this tradition forward into the future. The coupé reinterprets classic, emotional design principles in an extreme way, following the Mercedes design philosophy of sensual purity. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which measures almost six metres in length, is designed as an electric car. The drive system has an output of 550 kW (750 hp). The flat battery in the underbody enables a range of more than 500 km (NEDC).

Mercedes-AMG's continued expansion of the GT family will also be in evidence at the Paris Motor Show. Hot on the heels of the new AMG GT R, the sports car and performance brand will be presenting a further variant of the GT model series on the eve of the Paris Motor Show.

So will we see a concept of the rumored hyper car?

The rumors concerning the AMG hypercar are a bit hard to believe at the moment. My guess is that we will not see any preview of it in the form of a concept at Paris. This hypercar poses several challenges, if we are to believe the details of its technical package. It is not impossible, but it is not feasible or at least practical for a minimum amount of usage. A 1.6-litre, highly turbo'd V6 rated at around 1300 hp is a pinnacle of technology, but it is not at all suitable in a road-legal car. So, we shall see if the R50 happens in real life or if it is another constantly fueled internet hoax that has become too hard not to believe... ;)

The Mondial de l'Automobile 2016 could be too early for the R50 reveal as AMG celebrates its 50th anniversary in June of 2017. Remember the 45th anniversary celebratiions? They were held in June of 2012. :)

The performance brand from Mercedes-Benz celebrates its anniversary - 45 years of AMG: growth with performance
45 years of AMG: anniversary marks the start of a new era - 45 years of AMG: growth with performance

(Affalterbach, Jun 15, 2012) -- As part of the anniversary marking "45 years of AMG", Mercedes-AMG is providing an exclusive glimpse of the highlights of the A 45 AMG. With the powerful new top-of-the-range A-Class model, the performance brand from Mercedes-Benz is marking the start of a new era. For the first time in the 45-year history of the company, AMG will offer an exciting high-performance vehicle in the compact class. The A 45 AMG is representative of the ambitious future strategy entitled "AMG Performance 50", leading up to the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Based on a unique model offensive comprising additional high-performance compact cars as well as a number of AMG cars in higher classes featuring highly efficient drive systems, the company from Affalterbach is giving out clear signals for dynamic growth. And the offensive is all set to get under way this summer with new models including the SLS AMG GT and the GL 63 AMG. ....

So we won't see the GT Roadster in Paris, this is a sad news ! But we will have the E‑Class All‑Terrain that we haven't seen yet ! I'm quite curious about this one in fact.

Look at the history for both brands they both started in racing modified standard models, AMG a modified 300SEL in 1967 and M a modified 3.0 CSL in 1972. M only started in 1978 with the M1 but that was a low volume car and its first car was only slight modified 535i which had mostly M trim and got the M535i badge in 1979. In that period AMG brought out engine modifications, suspension upgrades and trim changes for all of Mercedes models like W123, W126 and C126. It has a longer history with developing high performance engines than BMW M in road cars. The first real BMW M model came out in 1985 with the M5, but that used the 1978 M1 motor in more powerful trim. At that time AMG had already developed and brought out a 5,6ltr 32 Valve V8 in the W124 to create The Hammer the fastest saloon in the world at that time which had a 303kmh top speed. It certainly was not a crappy tuner at the time, in fact it's modifications at the time were so well received that it made Mercedes Benz take notice and they bought shares in AMG in 1990 and the first model partnership was the C36 AMG in 1993.

@klier I see @Rolf was already so kind to shed some light on AMG-MB history. The modified 300 SEL 6.8 "the Red Pig" :) really was something special...

I think Tobias Moers has done more to the AMG brand than any of his predecessors did in the past 50 odd years. .

He has changed this company and its cars around totally. I am really happy that he is in charge of AMG as he seems to have a deep passion for the brand and driving excellence.
